Patricia (Holton) Reese Obituary

PARKMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Patricia (née Holton) Reese, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

She succumbed to complications from the disease, at her home in Parkman Township, surrounded by her loving and devoted family: Donald, her spouse of 43 years; her two sons, David and Michael and their spouses Shona and Carissa.

Patricia was born in Cleveland, in January, 1949. She was the first daughter and third child of Charles R. Holton, Jr. and Mary E. (Brown) Holton.

Her oldest brother Jeff and his wife, Sandy, reside in Longview, Texas. David (Mary Yancey Spencer), her older brother, resided in Richmond, Virginia. Pat’s younger sister, Barbara, resides in Cheverly, Maryland.

Pat’s family moved from Shaker Heights to Warren, Ohio, in the early 1950’s, when her father accepted the position of President of the Union Savings & Trust Co. They resided in Warren, for several years, before moving to Howland Township.

Pat attended Garfield School, before entering Howland Schools. Graduating in 1967, she matriculated to Muskingum University, where she majored in French. Pat spent a year as an exchange student, in France, attending the Sorbonne; after which, she returned to Muskingum to finish her studies and earn a teaching certificate.

Patricia was recruited by Centerville High School, in the Dayton Area. At Centerville, she became “Madame” to her adoring students. Pat had a gift for engaging the “inner child” in teenagers. She found ways to remind them that learning could be fun. She skillfully wove insights into the French culture, as well as her passion for art, to enliven an otherwise pedantic process for learning a foreign language.

Along the way, Pat raised her two boys, David, DVM and Michael, DVM to become well rounded and upstanding young men. They and their spouses, Shona, BVMS and Carissa, VTS are accomplished specialists in Veterinary Medicine.

Pat adored and took great pride in her two grandchildren, Abigail (four) and Jamison (one), who live with their parents, David and Shona, in the far off city of Perth, Western Australia. Watching them as they grow up at such a great distance has presented a real challenge. Fortunately, the commitment of their parents, coupled with modern technology, helped to mitigate her frustration at being so far away.

After retiring from Centerville High School, in 2007, Pat reinvented herself, avidly pursing the art she had so long studied, admired and taught. When Donald retired, in 2009, they decided to return to the Warren area, where they had grown up together. Consequently, in 2010, they moved to their family farm, near Parkman, where Pat traded painting canvases with pastels for creating rainbows with flowers, in her many splendid gardens.

Patricia is preceded in death by her father, mother and brother, David.

She is survived by a nephew and several nieces, as well as sisters-in-law, Kareen (Thomas) Klier, Monica and Mary Alice (Ralph) Meacham. “Madame” will be fondly remembered by her innumerable friends, colleagues, and students.

Pat was a gift to everyone whose life she touched. Her untimely death has left many hearts burdened with unthinkable grief and loss. Yet, with time, the memories of her indomitable spirit, calm and reassuring demeanor, ever present smile, warm and tender touch and selfless devotion to family and friends will be what endures and fills the void left by her passing.

There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held, prior to Interment at All Souls Cemetery, at a time of the family’s choosing.

Per Patricia’s request, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the Charles R. and Mary E. Holton, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, conducted through the Kent State Foundation Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road, NE, Warren, Ohio 44483, 330-394-6200. Dedicated To Serving Your Loved Ones.

David Edward Sedlacko Obituary

CAMPBELL, Ohio – David Edward Sedlacko, loving husband, father, carpenter, poet and all-around trouble-maker, joined the love of his life, his wife of 59 years and best friend, Mary Adele (Duffy) Sedlacko, on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Theirs was a testament to that rare and true unconditional love most of us only get to read about and their reunion a joyful blessing.

A proud first generation American of Slovak descent and the youngest of eight children, David was born in Campbell, Ohio on July 7, 1934 to Mr. Michael J. and Anna Melek Sedlacko. He was a farm boy and a lover of animals big and small, especially his dog Bebe, who was his constant companion these last years. He had a life-long love affair with music and was an accomplished singer, musician and dancer. He loved his country and served in the National Guard and he loved his family and served up a tasty kielbasa and kraut.

As a young carpenter, David built the family home on Mill Run Drive and in 1965 started what would be his most creative and rewarding endeavor, his company, DaMar, Inc., through which he not only supported his family but also inspired many a young carpenter. He truly loved his work and he never quite “retired.” He was an example of love of family, hard work and commitment and he instilled those values in all of his children. He was also a joker, a storyteller, a roller skater and a kid at heart. As a father, he turned the backyard into a playground for generations of kids, complete with fort, rope swing and roller coaster. Half of Youngstown must have ridden that coaster and if you did, you’re a part of his legacy and we thank you for sharing in his joy. He had a spirit that was larger than life and he will be missed by many.

He is survived by his five children, David M. Sedlacko, Mary Lisa Fricker, who lovingly tended to him through his final years and husband, Harry, Dan Sedlacko and wife, Carol, Lynn Sedlacko and Erin Sedlacko and husband, Jeremy Hakes. He is also survived by a sister, Agnes Lisko; two brothers, Cyril and Victor and five grandchildren, Jamie and Adam Sedlacko, Nick and Kaylee LaFramboise and Katherine Hakes.

In addition to his loving wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine and Anne and three brothers, Paul, Carl and Mike, with whom he is undoubtedly singing Slovak songs as we remember and many other family and friends.

Dr. John DelliQuadri and the compassionate staff at Liberty Healthcare provided exceptional care and comfort in his final days. The family gives them and all who cared for Dave their greatest gratitude.

In keeping with Dave’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family will plan a remembrance at a later date.

In celebration of his life, please sing out loud to your favorite song, strap on your roller skates and take a spin, toss a horseshoe with your brother, hug your daughter a little too tight, or polka dance with someone you love and know that Dave’s there with you.

Arrangements were handled by the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home. Please visit www.krcummins.com to leave condolences.

“…I only know that this is so To stand alone is a worthless toil But to hear “I love” and to answer true I, too, do love!; Let love renew The hearts of all So that it be our quest To live in peace Until it’s time to rest.” –David E. Sedlacko

Patricia Jean Riccardo Obituary

CANFIELD, Ohio – Patricia Jean Riccardo, 75, passed from this life peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 25, 2017, surrounded by many members of her loving family.

Patty was born October 29, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of Robert and Katherine (Campbell) O’Neill.

Her loving husband, Vincent, preceded her in death in 2012.

Patty was a 1958 graduate of East High School in Youngstown.

On February 23, 1963, Patricia married her love, Vincent. Soon after they bought a small home and began the story of their life. There is not enough space here to tell that story, however, if you would like to know, ask anyone who spent time with them.

Patty devoted her life to her family. While raising her three sons and daughter, her time was consumed with making sure they were cared for. Early on she lived for Friday, the day she could drop them off with her mother and spend the day in a beauty salon and local stores but as her children grew she sacrificed even that small luxury to attend their school and sporting events.

She was taught by her parents the importance of family values and in turn imparted that belief on her own children. Her home on Kingston Lane was the most crowded home in the neighborhood on any given day, filled with family and friends who would show up oddly enough around dinnertime for one of her meals. She rarely sat at the dinner table to eat as she was busy serving her family and guests, which was fine by her – she was happiest serving others.

Once she became a grandmother, her home was transformed into a daycare center/beauty spa where the table was usually covered with play-doh, makeup, art supplies, nail polish, costume jewelry and Legos.

Her homemade pizzelles and cookies (especially the chocolate chip) were legendary and never lasted long and even inspired a poem written by her grandson, Ricky, in middle school.

In addition to raising their four children, she worked for ten years as a cashier for the Santisi family in their grocery stores and retired as a life member of UFCW.

She was a member of St. Christine Catholic Church.

Patty is survived by her sister, Delores and brothers, Robert (Linda) and Donald O’Neill; sister-in-law and lifetime friend, Martha Riccardo; sons Vincent (Colleen), James (Jill) and Stephen; daughter, Stephanie (Richard); grandchildren Vincent, Rachel, Ricky, Jenna, Leah, A.J., Nina and Jace and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, February 28 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

Prayers will be held Wednesday, March 1 at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. Christine Church.

Material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
