Johnny H. Thomas, Jr., Warren, Ohio

WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Johnny H. Thomas, Jr., 60, resident of White Oak Manor Nursing Center in Warren, passed away early Friday morning, February 7, 2020, at Mercy Health Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman.

He was born February 2, 1960 in Warren, the son of Johnny H., Sr. and Barbara Sue (Walker) Thomas Hunter.

Johnny attended Warren G. Harding High School.

He enjoyed racing and working on cars and watching movies. His favorite thing was spending time and having a drink with his friends.

Johnny is survived by four siblings; Carol (Vince) Touart and Buffy (Harold) Davis, both of Warren, Paul (Katherine) Hunter, of Leavittsburg and Paulette (Ed) Ensinger, of Warren. He also leaves behind a step-sister, Mary Ann (Paul) Eller, of New Jersey and a step-brother, Robert Hunter, of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Harvey “Paul” Hunter, who raised him; and three step-brothers, Harvey, Donald and Gerald Hunter.

A time of gathering celebrating Johnny’s life will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Longboyz Tavern, 200 Cleveland Ave. W, Warren, OH 44483.

Arrangements for Mr. Thomas are being provided by the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests material contributions be made to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home in Johnny’s memory, to assist in defraying expenses.

George Henry Phillips, Jr., Southington, Ohio

SOUTHINGTON, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – George Henry Phillips, Jr., 84, of Southington, Ohio passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 28, 1935, in Somerset, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George H. Phillips, Sr. and Evelyn B. (Racey) Phillips.

On October 8, 1970, he married the former Bonnie G. O’Neal and they have shared over forty-nine years of marriage and many wonderful memories.

He was a graduate of JBJ High School in Boswell, Pennsylvania. George retired from Packard Electric in 1998 after 44 years of service.

George enjoyed doing puzzles, going to casinos and gardening, especially tending to his tomato’s and sunflower’s. He also enjoyed golfing and belonged to Forest Oaks golf league and was past president of the Little Wildcat Football program. George was extremely involved in his grandchildren’s lives and was always there to root them on and support them. His children, grandchildren and wife were what life was all about for him. He will forever be missed and always in their hearts.

George’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Bonnie G. Phillips of Southington, Ohio; children, Gary (Kathy) Phillips of Farmdale, OH, Shawn (Jennifer) Phillips of Leavittsburg, OH, Holly (Bill) Webber of Leavittsburg, Ohio, Christopher (Angie) Phillips of Warren Twp., Ohio and George “Chip” (Karen) Phillips of Newton Falls, Ohio; brother, Roy Phillips of Stoystown, Pennsylvania; sister, Anita Alkire of Friedens, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Stevie, Dawn, Collin, Riley, Lauren, Hannah, Brady, Lainey, Amarey and Georgie; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Colton, Dakota, Thaddeous and Keeley and great-great grandson, Daxton.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by four sisters.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Bill Carter will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Southington Reformed Cemetery, Southington, Ohio.

Rontelli O. Moore Reed, Sr., Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Mr. Rontelli O. Moore Reed, Sr. entered eternal rest on  Thursday, February 6, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Mr. Reed was born January 13, 1977 in Youngstown, a son of  the late Ralph Moore, Sr. and Dorenda Reed Moore.

Rontelli enjoyed sports, his favorite teams was the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots and the Lakers. When it came to dressing Ron was always clean from “head to toe”.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Dorenda; stepfather, Kippy (Deirdre) Wallace; siblings, Lorenzo, Rashawn, Patricia and Ratosha (Eddie Shelton) Reed; nephew, Autwan Reese; niece, Mone’ Clarkskon Reed; children, Nicole Zigler, Shonqualin Hendrix, Rontelli, Jr., Rontellia Odyessie, Antonio, Aneshia, Aneenah and DeMichael Butler; five grandchildren and one on the way and a host of other relatives and friends and four dogs.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Ralph, Jr.; grandparents, Henry and Annie Reed, Jr. and Marie and Harry Reed, Sr. and a cousin, Terrence Wigfall.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020 at the Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14 at the church prior to services.

Ralph Raymond Gillespie, Newton Falls, Ohio

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Ralph Raymond Gillespie, 84 years old, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born September 16, 1935, in Windham, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph and Mary Gillespie of Newton Falls.

Ralph married the love of his life, Violet June Haney, on April 23, 1954 and they have been married for 65 wonderful years. Ralph and Violet lived all of their married life in Newton Falls, Ohio, where they raised their three children.

Ralph was very active in the community where he was a member of the Newton Falls Jaycees, Newton Falls School Board and he served eight years on City Council.

When Ralph was not serving the community, he had a vast love for sports. He was a state track meet finalist, played basketball, baseball, bowled and his greatest love was the game of GOLF. When he was not playing the sport, he was supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their athletic endeavors. Ralph never missed a game. Ralph loved watching all Ohio sports; the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians.

Memories of Ralph will be carried on by his loving wife, Violet, of Newton Falls; one son, Michael (Darcy) Gillespie of Newton Falls; two daughters, Beth (Mark) Medallis of Newton Falls and Tammy (Philip) Blandine of Newton Falls and two sisters, Irma (Tony) Shields of Chicago and Norma (the late, Norman) Shannon of Lake Lure, North Carolina. Ralph has six loving grandchildren: grandsons, Ryan (Billie) Gillespie of Cortland, Matthew (Krista) Gillespie of Williamsburg, Virginia, Eric Medallis of Arizona, Todd Medallis of Newton Falls and two granddaughters, Taylor and Tori Blandine of Newton Falls. Ralph also has four adoring great-grandchildren, Rylie and Landon (Ryan) Gillespie, Jayden and Peyton (Matthew) Gillespie and one more great-grandchild on the way.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Gillespie; sister, Mary Louise Sewell and brother-in-law, Norman Shannon.

Calling hours will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m, on Friday, February 14, 2020 at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Reid Lamport officiating.

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Frances McCall, 84, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia with family by her side.

She was born November 28, 1935 in Thomas, West Virginia, daughter of the late, Costantino and Carmela DelSignore Latanzio.

Although currently residing in Charlottesville, Virginia, Fran was a longtime resident of East Palestine.

She was a 1953 graduate of New Waterford High School and a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

She worked as the parish secretary for the church and also was employed as secretary for East Palestine Schools.

She was a proud member of the Women’s All-American Baseball League, the Ft. Wayne Daisies and was a devoted coach’s wife.

Fran is survived by her son, Michael McCall of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Keely (Mike) Vitale of Arlington, Virginia, Riley McCall, Pearse McCall and Owen McCall all of Charlottesville, Virginia and great-grandchildren, twins, Tommie and Charlie Vitale. 

Besides her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas “Colonel” McCall, March 2019, her parents and a brother, Ralph Latanzio in 1982.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 14, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes in East Palestine with Father Christopher Cicero officiating.

A private interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Palestine.

Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children’s Hospital,, 501 St Jude, Place Memphis, TN 38105.

Gary L. Liberatore, Warren, Ohio

WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Gary L. Liberatore, 68, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020.

He was born on August 22, 1951 in Warren, the son of Eugene C. Liberatore and Jean Brown Polta.

A lifetime resident of Warren, Gary graduated from Warren G. Harding High School.

He served in the United States Navy for two years.

He retired from Packard Electric after 31 years.

A 25-year member of AA, Gary found a purpose and calling as a speaker and sponsor in the organization. He made lasting friendships and a difference in many lives.

He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Liberatore; seven granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; his mother, Doris Liberatore of Florida; his sisters, Pamela DeRosa of Kinsman and Elizabeth “Bizzy” (Richard) Slama, of Florida; his three brothers, David of Florida, Timothy (Carli) of Hawaii and Joseph (Nina) of North Carolina; his eight nieces and nephews and two great-nieces.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Donna B. Liberatore and his son, Gary Lee Liberatore, Jr.

Because of his love and concern for animals, the family asks that donations may be made in memory of Gary to the Animal Welfare League of Vienna, 812 Youngstown-Kingsville Road SE, Vienna, OH 44473.

The family thanks the staffs of Lake Vista and the Ohio Living Hospice for their compassionate care.

There will be a service on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Dillon & Santucci Funeral Home, 4471 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, OH 44473 for all friends and family.

John L. “Jack” Titus II, Hermitage, PA

HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – John L. “Jack” Titus II, 75, of Hermitage, passed away late Monday evening, February 10, 2020, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Titus was born March 11, 1944, in Sharon, a son of the late John L. “Lloyd” and Martha (Burns) Titus.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1962 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

Jack worked as a welder at the former General American Transportation Corporation (GATX), Masury, Ohio, until the plant’s closing in 1984. He then began driving truck for Essroc in Hillsville, Pennsylvania and later drove for Castle Builder Supply in Hermitage. Jack also drove school busses for STA in Hermitage and transported the students of Hickory and Sharpsville Schools, a job he loved dearly. Most recently, he drove a school van for Erdos Transport Services, West Middlesex.

Jack was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville.

He took much pride in a hard days work and his immaculately kept lawn. Jack loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially while supporting them at their sporting events.

His wife of 51 years, the former Constance E. Zentz, whom he married July 24, 1968, survives at home.

Also surviving are two sons, Jon (Renee) Titus of Sharpsville and David (Jenifer) Titus of West Middlesex; a sister, Darla Renner of West Middlesex; a brother, Tim (Nancy) Titus of Tarpon Springs, Florida and six grandchildren, Natalie, Ian and Morgan Titus and Michael, Jack and Casey Gladysz.  

Calling hours will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon. 

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14 in St. Bartholomew Church, 311 W. Ridge Avenue, Sharpsville, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, as celebrant.

Interment will be in Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.

Thelma “Mickey” M. Liebhart, Beloit, Ohio

BELOIT, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Thelma “Mickey” M. Liebhart, 96, of Beloit, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Copeland Oaks in Sebring.

Mickey was born in Beloit on January 17, 1924 the daughter of the late John and Martha (Waffler) Fryfogle.

She was a graduate of Alliance High School and worked for ten years at Alliance Manufacturing and 22 years at Knox Elementary School in the cafeteria.

She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ and an over 65 year member of Mile Branch Grange, as well as, a past member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Edward Liebhart, whom she married on October 18, 1947 and two sons, Douglas (Judy) of Beloit and David of Sebring. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Jon (Marisa) Liebhart, Sarah Liebhart and Lindsay (Aaron) Twaddle; six great-grandchildren, Millie and Cameron Dickens, Teagan and Enzley Twaddle, Hendrix Liebhart and Kenzie Hoover, as well as, a sister, Goldie Summer.

Besides her parents and an infant, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Liebhart on April 13, 2014; three sisters, Erma Bauman, Lela Snyder and Velma Fryfogle; a brother, John K. and four half-brothers, Herman, Lloyd, Clarence and Harold Oswalt.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Kahler officiaiting.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15 the hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Bethel Cemetery.

Carl R Horton, North Bloomfield, Ohio

NORTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Carl R Horton, 84, gained his angel wings on Monday, February 10, 2020.

He was born on February 20, 1935 to Earl and Florence Dorothy (Horton) Pearce.

Carl went on to marry the love of his life, Janice A (Spano) Horton on March 5, 1960. They enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage and they fulfilled their dream of living country life, family and helping just about anyone that needed it. He was dedicated to his duties of being a loving, providing and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He loved animals and doing demolition, a business in which he worked in for over 50 years, anything outdoors and most of all, his family time.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Tangi Day (Larry), Karla Horton and Sharon Walters; grandchildren, Donald Day (Chris), Jordan Stevenson, Jaycee Butcher and Troy (Anna) Roper; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Pearce, Rene Joy, Erma Dean, Bonnie Smith, Darlene Frye, Doris Hyde and Ruth Barnard and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Carl also was preceded in death by his wife, Janice A Horton; grandsons, Clifford and Daniel Day and siblings, Virginia Wildman, Beatrice Smith, Charles Horton and Clifford Horton.

As per Carl’s request, there will not be a funeral.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Carl and Janice on Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Greene Nazarene Church, 8916 State Route 46, North Bloomfield, OH 44450 (Greene Township).

Thomas M. Andrella, Leavittsburg, Ohio

LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Thomas M. Andrella passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, in the compassionate care of Ohio Living Lake Vista and Hospice after his strong battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Tom was born in Warren on October 31, 1941 to Ann Duda Andrella and John Andrella.

Tom spent his childhood in and on Lake Milton.

He attended St Mary’s elementary school and graduated from Jackson-Milton High School.

In the fall in 1959, he entered the U.S. Navy and continued his love of being on the water. During his tour of duty, he served on an ammo ship touring the Mediterranean Sea.

After his discharge from the Navy, he began his tool and die apprenticeship at Packard Electric where he retired in 2001 after 39 years. As if working steady midnights wasn’t fulfilling enough, he also owned a machine shop Alloy Welding, where he spent his daytime hours.

In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing on his sail boat and participating in races across Lake Erie. He was a member of the Ashtabula Yacht Club. During his later years, he retired from sailing and enjoyed his fishing boat with his buddies on Lake Erie.

In 1977, he made the “famous left turn” and found the love of his life, Lou Rae. They married in 1978 and enjoyed 41 years of unconditional, loving marriage.

Tom will always be remembered for his cup being half full. He had several mottos that he lived by that his family will never forget. “It’s easier to just be nice”, “Relax”, and “Have some finesse”.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Lou Rae; sons, Aaron Andrella (Pam) of Niles and Adam Andrella (Lyne) of Marysville; daughters, Debbe Marshall (Tom) of Leavittsburg and Tamme Ludwick of Warren and brother, James (Jan) of Warren. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Other then his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bill Briscoe.

As an expression of sympathy donations can be made to Ohio Living Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe, Canfield, OH 44406 for contributions in Tom’s name.

His body has been donated to Cleveland Clinic for medical research.

A gathering of friends and family will be at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on Sunday, February 16 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the Ohio Living Long Term Care and Hospice staff for their loving care and compassion.

HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Rose Lark passed away peacefully at her Hermitage home surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

Rose was born June 3, 1939 to Frances and Dewey Maskrey.

She married James Lark on August 11, 1956.

She worked at Sharon Regional Hospital until her retirement.

Rose is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Lark, Sr. She is also survived by two daughters, Debbie Stanger and her husband, Keith, of Virginia and Linda Allen and her husband, Dervin, of Illinois and one daughter-in-law, Andrea Lark of Hermitage. She had seven grandchildren, Melissa Arvelo and her husband, José, Justin and Ryan Stanger of Virginia, Branden Allen of Illinois, Natalie Edwards and her husband, James, of Arizona and Whitney and Zackery Lark of Hermitage. She had four great-grandchildren, Tony, Sofia, Alexander Arvelo and Liam Stanger of Virginia. She is survived by two brothers, Dean and Robert Maskrey and 19 nieces and nephews.

Rose is preceded in death by her son, James Lark, Jr.; her parents; two sisters, Nancy and Delora and one brother, Art.

Rose was an active member of Hickory United Methodist Church and is going home to be with Jesus.

Rose will be remembered as the most loving and selfless wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother any family could have. She will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 15, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 North Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

Nancy J. Ceplece, North Lima, Ohio

NORTH LIMA, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Nancy J. Ceplece, 81, formerly of Struthers, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Ivy Woods Manor, where she had been a resident for several years.

Nancy was born April 8, 1938 in Struthers. She was the daughter of Steve and Mary (Duraney) Ceplece and lived in Struthers most of her life.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Nancy enjoyed playing her records from her large collection and could play the piano, even though she never had one lesson.

Nancy leaves behind a sister, Dorothy J. (Andrew) Maletsky of Struthers; four nieces, Andrea Naples, Lisa Davis, Denise Wuchnic and Michelle Wuchnic and great-nephews, Chris Swantner and Nathan Davis that she spent many holidays with and also many more special nieces and nephews from the Paulsey family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Frances Wuchnic and Louise Paulsey and two brothers-in-law, Ron Wuchnic and Ben Paulsey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ivy Woods Manor for the special care given to Nancy.

There was a private funeral service held for Nancy on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street in Struthers, with Deacon John Terranova officiating.

Interment was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Lowellville.

She was born January 28, 1952 in New Castle, the daughter of the late Vincent and Mae (Triozzi) DelPrincipe.

Denise was manager of the Butler location of Long John Silvers for over 20 years. 

She enjoyed photography and traveling, especially to England where she had many friends.

She will be sadly missed by her beloved cat, Spot.

She is survived by two brothers, David DelPrincipe of New Castle and Dan DelPrincipe of New Castle.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.

NEW CASTLE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Karen Ann McFall, 66, of Marshall Avenue, died Saturday, February 8, 2020 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

She was born October 21, 1953 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Bernard and Phyllis (Anderson) Jackson.

She was married to Donald McFall on May 20, 2005, he survives in New Castle.

Mrs. McFall was a nurse’s aide at Golden Hill Nursing Home and Haven Nursing Home retiring after 30 years. 

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making arts and crafts and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband she is survived by one daughter, Destiny Smith of New Castle; three stepchildren, Donald McFall II of New Castle, Pabby McFall of New Castle and Arvenia McFall of New Castle; three brothers, Bernard Jackson of Pittsburgh, David Jackson of New Castle and Melvin Jackson of New Castle; one sister, Marcia Jackson of New Castle and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Lorenzo Jackson and her brother, Barry Jackson.

Memorial services will be held Monday, February 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church.

She was born April 21, 1966 in Freemont, Nebraska the daughter of Eloise Marie (Rauchenbaugh) Roberts, her mother survives in New Castle.

Ms. Isaac enjoyed writing short stories, listening to and singing music and drawing and painting.

She is survived by four children, Luke Isaac, Noah Isaac, Trenton Isaac, all of New Castle and Emily Isaac of Youngstown, Ohio and one brother, Ernie Roberts of New Castle.

Private funeral services will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Pastor Jarrod Mills of Clifton Flats Alliance Church will be officiating.

LEETONIA, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Gary P. Holloway, 79, of Miller Road, passed away peacefully at 1:34 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Holloway was born January 27, 1941 in East Palestine, Ohio, the son of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Cramer) Holloway and had lived most of his life in the area.

Gary worked as a union lineman for the City of Columbiana for over 30 years and was a foreman for the last four years, retiring in 2005.

He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy, serving on an aircraft carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Gary was also a member of the American Legion Benjamin Franklin Post 290 and was a member of Wick Lodge 481 F&AM.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a true dog lover. He will also be remembered for his faithful weekly attendance at the Rogers Sale.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara (Kramer) Holloway, whom he married March 20, 1970; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Michael Johns of Cleveland Heights and Rebecca and Greg Hood of Leavittsburg, Ohio; sons, Gary Paul Holloway of Streetsboro, Ohio and Scott Holloway of Lisbon; sister, Barbara (Aldo) Garuccio of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania and grandchildren, Drew (Kelli) Starr, Katie Tracey, Michelle Cain, Blake Hood and Bailey Hood.

A private memorial service will be held for the family at a later date.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February, February 18, at Venture Church, 7872 Glenwood Avenue, Boardman for Dorothy Mae Thomas, 98 of Boardman who died early Monday morning, February 10 at Beeghly Oaks. ‘

Dorothy was born October 7, 1921 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the youngest of eight children to the late Evan R. and Margretta (Jones) Lewis.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Chicago Bible Institute.

Dorothy married Pastor Donald L. Thomas on June 9, 1944 and together they embarked on a life of ministry together. As a minister’s wife, she taught children’s classes, Vacation Bible School, Women’s Bible Studies and many other church activities. Dorothy was a member of Venture Church, having quite a presence in the church. She was a prayer warrior and was known as “Grandma Dorothy.”

Dorothy enjoyed geneology and made a family history for each family member. It was important to her to share the history of their family from a religious understanding.

Dorothy leaves her daughter, Carol (Ken) Doyle of Boardman; three grandchildren, Pastor Nathan (Heather) Doyle of Boardman, Stephen (Bethany) Doyle of Houston, Pennsylvania and Jonathan (Aimee) Doyle of Jacksonville, Florida and 12 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, who died March 7, 1999; a son, Donald L. Thomas, Jr.; three brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday, February 18 from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Venture Church.

Born August 17, 1951 in Farrell, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Syco) Layo.

Linda attended Sharon High School and worked as a shipping and receiving manager for Sharon Stationary and also sold jewelry on E-Bay.

In her spare time she liked making jewelry and doing all types of crafts.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Linda is survived by one son, Lance Smith of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; a brother, John Layo, Jr. of Farrell, Pennsylvania; a sister, Christine Yankavich of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Smith.

There will be no visitation or services at this time.

NILES, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Gladys Marie Anderson, 79, of Niles, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 6, 2020 at her home.  

She was born January 16, 1941 in South Hill, Virginia, the daughter of Buster and Nora (Powell) Jones, moving to Ohio in 1964.

Gladys retired from Packard Electric after 43 years of employment.  

She belonged to Grace A.M.E. Church and Silver Sneakers and enjoyed talking on the phone, exercising and shopping.

Precious memories of Gladys live on with her two children, Holli Marie Anderson of Youngstown and James Marcellus Anderson, Jr. of Warren; three grandchildren, Donte Anderson, Rae’nia Owens and Demar Anderson; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, John Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and their families.

Preceding her in death are her parents and 16 brothers and sisters.

According to her wishes, cremation is taking place.  

Services are private.
