Tribute: Robert E. “Boo Boo” Cochran

WARREN, Ohio – Robert E “Boo Boo” Cochran, 54, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 22, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

He was born October 8, 1961 in Warren, Ohio to James Lee Cochran, Sr. and Jean Ann McClellan and was a lifetime native of the area.

Robert was much loved by his very large family and scores of friends.

He was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and love to ride motorcycles. He was also known as the family prankster and loved telling stories and jokes. He was always fun to be around, always smiling and guaranteed to be laughing with what some refer to as the “best laugh ever.”

He will lovingly be remembered by many but especially by his mother, Jean Ann Graham and her companion, Don Thompson; daughter, Cyndi (John) Mccorkle; brothers, Philip (Diana) Graham, James Lee Cochran, Jr. and his girlfriend, Jennie Canter, Al Cochran and his fiancée, Kellie Jones, Mike (Helene) Graham and Nicholas (Heidi) Graham; sisters, Sheila (Dave) Breech, Jeanette (Tom) Costantino, Kathy (Terry) Searles and Linda Megnin and her fiancee Robbie Burden; grandchildren, Katie, Adele and Landon, by his former wife and close friend, Tami Degraw and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his natural father, James Lee Cochran, Sr. and by Michael N. Graham, Sr., who raised him as his own son, his grandmother, Eileen Casey, and his beloved dog, Harley.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts Wick Rd., Girard, Ohio 44420. The Reverend William Carter will officiate.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the local VFW or to his daughter to help with the cost of funeral expenses.

CORTLAND, Ohio – Lewis C. Cairns IV, 25, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at his residence.

He was born February 12, 1991, in Warren, Ohio the son of Lewis C. Cairns III and Mary K. Courtney.

He was employed by Wind Turbines of Ohio in Alliance as a laborer. He enjoyed skateboarding, fishing and dirt biking.

He was an amazing father, husband, son, brother and friend to all who knew him he loved everyone. He could brighten up the darkest room with just his smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved cooking and dreamed of being a chef one day.

To his mother Mary Kay, he was her best friend, and she will greatly, greatly miss him.

He is survived by his wife Whitney Cairns who he married May 9, 2014, two children Lewis V and Ryleigh Cairns both at home, mother & stepfather Mary (Greg) Courtney of Salem, father & stepmother Lewis (Natalie Cairns of Howland, maternal grandmother Peggy Massary of Warren, paternal grandfather Lewis C. Cairns, Jr. of Warren, mother-in-law & father-in-law Gary (Colleen) Felger of Champion, siblings Anthony, Frank, Sarah, Anabelle and Lileana Cairns, Sam (Kim), Alec, Aaron, Olga, Polina, Kamil, and Toria Courtney, and numerous Aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Armand Massary and his paternal grandmother Mary Ann Cairns.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483.

A private burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.

A celebration of “Lewie’s” life will be celebrated on Thursday, September 29 at Leo’s Ristorante at 12:00 noon.

Tribute: Harry R. “Ray” Wilkinson

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Harry R. “Ray” Wilkinson, 79 of Briarfield Manor passed away Sunday evening, September 25, at the home.

Ray was born August 28, 1937 in Toronto, Ohio, a son of Franklin “Wayne” and Dorothy Ruth Wilkinson.

He graduated from Northern Butler County Joint High School and had worked as a District Manager for Automatic Sprinkler Corporation for 31 years. He then worked as a District Manager for Grunau Corporation until retiring in 2000.

Ray enjoyed family, golf, classic cars and was a big sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, the former Barbara Jean Walp, whom he married March 11, 1966; a daughter, Sheryl Mook of Boardman; two sons, Kevin (Virginia) Wilkinson, Scott Wilkinson both of Boardman; a step-daughter, Sue (Brett) Buzard of Centerville, Ohio; a step-son, Curtis (Kathleen) Bodamer of Boardman; 12 grandchildren and twin great granddaughters. Ray also leaves two sisters, Margaret Wilson of Butler, Pennsylvania and Jean Wonner of Beloit, Ohio.

Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Jodi Shaw; two brothers, Earl Wilkinson, Bill Wilkinson and an infant sister, Betty Jane.

Friends may call 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 30 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Anstrom Chapel, 8387 Tod Ave., Boardman, followed by a private memorial service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Briarfield Manor for their exceptional care during Ray’s time with them.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Belma Johnson will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnson departed this life September 21, 2016, at Liberty Medical Center in Youngstown.

Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Hope Hull, Alabama, a daughter of Andrew and Ida Hurst Washington.

She was a member of the church, where she served as an usher and member of the senior choir. She was a loving homemaker, who will be deeply missed by
those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Michael A. Johnson, Alton Johnson, Jr., Lois Lewis and Andrea Johnson, all of Youngstown; her sister, Ruby Molly Pippens of Youngstown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Alton Johnson, Sr., who died August 12, 1994; and several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 28 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.

NILES, Ohio – Bobby D. Ford, age 55, died on September 22, 2016, at U Mass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, following a tragic accident at work.

Bobby was born on November 27, 1960, in Rockford, Illinois, a son of Bobby D. Ford and the late Francie (Owens) Ford.

Bobby worked as a laborer, owning and operating his own business demolishing water towers for over 25 years.

He was a devoted hardworking family man, who adored his kids and grandkids.

In his free time he enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing and taking the grandbabies on four-wheeler rides.

He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 36 years, Karla Pemble, of Niles, two daughters; McKayla Ford, of Warren and Karissa Ford, of Niles, his father Bobby Ford, of Dixon, Illinois, siblings, Debbie (Randy) Eisele, of Creston, Illinois, Lynda Hoggard, Jimmy Ford, David Ford, and Timmy Ford, all of Dixon, Illinois. He also leaves behind his precious grandsons, Sean Ford and Logan Winland.

He is preceded in death by his mother; granddaughter, Willow Gordon; and brother Steven Ford.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Niles Chapel, 415 Robbins Ave. Niles, Ohio.

Family and friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

WARREN, Ohio – Michael James Cash, age 36 of Warren, died unexpectedly Friday morning, September 23, 2016, at his home.

He was born May 3, 1980 in Warren, the son of Dawn Renee Stemple Verville and Edward James Cash, Jr.

Michael currently worked for KRV Construction and previously worked for several years in Florida and Louisiana in irrigation and landscaping.

He loved fishing, basketball, bicycling and cooking. He was a dog lover, an extremely hard worker and was a well liked young man. He was a great brother and was kind hearted, loving, caring, good natured, witty and had a robust laugh.

Michael is survived by his mother, Renee and stepfather, Steve Verville of Cape Coral, Florida; his father, Ed of Warren; his brother, Scott V. Liebal of Cape Coral; his grandmothers, Louella Stemple and Margaret Cash both of Warren; four aunts, Debbie Davis, Dena Stemple, Margie Wamer and Lisa (Dennis) Resigner; one uncle, John (Debbie) Cash; a niece, Gemma Liebal; a great uncle, Nolda Stemple and numerous cousins and friends.

Both grandfathers, Gilbert B. Stemple and Edward J. Cash, Sr. have preceded him in death.

A private family graveside service will be Friday afternoon, September 30, at the Kerr Cemetery chapel with Pastor David Burman officiating.

Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery in Mineral Ridge.

Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren.

CAMPBELL, Ohio – Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday morning, September 30, at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church for Ann M. Rivalsky, 81, who passed away Friday, September 23.

Ann was born, August 19, 1935, in Campbell, the daughter of Frank and Christina Centofanti Rossi.

She was a 1953 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and retired from Cold Metal Products in 1997 after 21 years of service.

She was a member of the church, the Infant Guild Society, a pierogi kitchen worker, bingo worker and the Campbell Senior Citizens Group.

Ann’s greatest joy was seeing her family happy and surrounded by joy.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Roseann and Andy Duraney of New Middletown; daughter-in-law Lee Anne Rivalsky of Beavercreek; grandchildren Michael Rivalsky, Chris (Chloe) Rivalsky, Anna Duraney and Emily Duraney; and a sister, Sister Lois Marie Rossi of Lemont Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Anthony (Tony) Rivalsky; brothers Patsy and Joe DelSignore and sisters Sandra Heri and Norma Rossi Leach.

Ann’s family would like to thank all those who have provided their love and support throughout the years.

WARREN, Ohio – George R. Kudrich, age 74, of Warren, passed away Saturday, September 24, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

George was born November 29, 1941 in Warren to the late George and Helen (Lillicotch) Kudrich.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing, and visiting casino’s all over the country. A true diehard Cleveland Browns fan.

He was the owner and operator of Greenville Gun and Supply.

George was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam.

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Kudrich, his children, Hope (Anthony) Sadowski and Adam (Amanda) Kudrich; grandchildren, Nathan Price, Victoria Bailey, Hailey Felger, Gabriella Felger, and Paul Kudrich; a sister Audrey June Davis.

William enjoyed sailing and was an avid football fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

He leaves his mother, Sally Kobel of Austintown; his father and step-mother, Michael J. and Connie Jones of Deerfield, Ohio; a sister, Liz Felger of Austintown; a brother, Karl Felger of Cleveland; his maternal grandfather, Don Young of Cortland and a niece, Addison Marker.

William was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Jo Anne Jones and his maternal grandmother, Betty Young.

Tribute: Leroy G. Harvey

HUBBARD, Ohio – Leroy G. Harvey age 90, of Hubbard passed away on Sunday September 25, 2016 at O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home in Masury.

Leroy was born December 30, 1925 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, a son of George and Eva Weaver Harvey.

He graduated from East Technical High School of Cleveland, Ohio where he ran on the state championship track team. He also played baseball in Western Pennsylvania for several years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, gardening, computers, and traveling and had visited most of the 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii and also traveled to Europe, Canada, and Mexico.

He worked in supervisory positions at A & P and Penn Traffic grocery stores from which he retired in 1990. After retiring he worked at Andover Sparkle for five years.

He was a Corporal in the United States Army in the 2nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels Tank Division” that met the Russians in Berlin during World War II and was awarded two Bronze Stars and five Campaign Citations.

He will be will sadly missed by his family; his wife the former Roberta Dingman whom he married November 9, 1983; his daughter Pamela McCurdy of Texas, and other family members Linda Holly of Cleveland, Ohio and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He also leaves his sisters Margaret Niemi of Andover, Ohio and Lucy Malcom of New Mexico.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Margaret Huffman and brothers Fred Harvey and Lyle Harvey.

There are no calling hours or services per the request of Mr. Harvey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

HUBBARD, Ohio – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard for Elizabeth J. “Betty Jane” Tribby age 59, of Hubbard who passed away on Sunday September 25, 2016 at home.

Betty Jane was born November 29, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of Alfred George and Angeline Mary Camuso Tribby.

She was a 1975 graduate of Hubbard High School and a 1979 graduate of Youngstown State University.

She was a property manager and a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.

Betty Jane is survived by her mother Angeline Tribby of Hubbard, her sister JoAnn (David) Oaks of Hubbard and her brother Atty. Alfred G. (Cindy) Tribby, Jr. of Liberty.

Besides her father she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Ann Bottar.

There will be calling hours one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday September 28, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard.

Betty Jane will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery.

SALEM, Ohio – Katherine Irene (Barnard)(fna Beeson) Roof 94, of Salem, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 6:15 p.m. at Salem Regional Medical Center.

She was born on February 7, 1922 in Salem, the daughter of the late Elver Cleveland and Ella Jane (Bennett) Barnard.

Katherine was a loving daughter, wife and mother.

Katherine was a life-time resident of Salem, except for a period of a few years when she lived in Alliance. She worked in the machine shop of the Goodyear Aircraft Co, in Akron. She was a housekeeper in Salem Central Clinic Hospital. She was a resident of Salem Manor and enjoyed playing Bingo in the community room. She also enjoyed country music and wordfind.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on July 31, 1963 by her first husband, Franklyn Leroy Beeson, Sr., whom she married on April 8, 1939, on October 4, 1988 by her second husband Earl Roof whom she married on March 25, 1971, her siblings, Ella Jane, Mary, James, Cecil, Paul, Carl, Elver Barnard, and Blanche Fickes and her half sister Pearl Newell.

She is survived by her children, Franklyn Leroy (Nancy) Beeson Jr. of Prescott Arizona, Linda Kay (Paul) Arter of Lisbon, Ohio, and Darlene Mae (Stephen) Shutler of Millington, Tennessee, many grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 1:00 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services with the Rev. Ryan Shoaff of Canton officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.

A time of visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Ms. Johnson was born August 15, 1957, in Greenville, Alabama, a daughter of Ozell and Nazarene McConnico Johnson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the House of God Church.

She leaves her mother, Nazarene Howard of Greenville, South Carolina,2 children; Randy Johnson and Ameka Walker, both of Youngstown, siblings; Vera Johnson, Twyla Harris and Tanisha Howard, all of Greenville, South Carolina, Jarvis Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama and Victor Johnson of Greenville, South Carolina and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and 2 sisters; Barbara Armstrong and Cassandra Johnson.

Tribute: Mary Ellen D’Altorio Monaco

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Ken Miller as celebrant, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Mrs. Mary Ellen D’Altorio Monaco, 93, who passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 26, at Humility House, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Monaco was born on January 21, 1923, in Youngstown, the child of Dominic and Florence (Catanzarite) Phillipone.

She attended Stambaugh School and Chaney High School. Following school, Mary Ellen worked as a waitress and hostess for many years in several local restaurants.

Mary Ellen was a former member of St. Anthony Parish, where she was a member and officer of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Most recently, Mary Ellen was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Austintown.

Family was the central theme for her life. Her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were always at the forethought of her thoughts. Mary Ellen also enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and dancing.

Mary Ellen leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Mary Ellen Chance of Austintown; grandson Tony (Julia Simon) Chance of Sharpsville; granddaughter Gina Marie Chance of Austintown; and great-grandson Jack Chance.

Besides her parents, Dominic and Florence, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Phillipone; sister Josephine Pachell; her first husband, Carl N. D’Altorio; and late husband, Frank Monaco.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

HOWLAND, Ohio – Charles H. Norchi, Jr., M.D. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Dr. Norchi was born on July 31, 1925 in the Bronx, New York the son of the late Charles H. and Alacoque Norchi.

Dr. Norchi practiced as an anesthesiologist at St. Joseph’s Health Center for over 30 years.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and then joined the 3rd Amphibious Corps of the United States Marines, serving in the Pacific Theatre of the Second World War until 1946. Dr. Norchi saw action in the amphibious and ground battles for Okinawa and subsequently served in the US Fleet hospital at Isahaya, Japan treating survivors of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. For his war service he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star, the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and Navy Presidential Unit Citation.

Following his war service, Dr Norchi graduated from Manhattan College in New York City and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the National University of Ireland in Dublin.

He was a long-standing parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren, an avid athlete who played tennis, golf and baseball, and also enjoyed playing the accordion and became an accomplished wood carver.

He leaves Breda, his wife of sixty-two years, and four children – Charles of Portland, Maine, Kevin (Meg) of Bentleyville, Ohio, Patricia of New York City, and Terrence (Heidi) of Natick, Massachusetts and seven grandchildren; Kevin, Kathleen, Ryan, Amanda, Victoria, Olivia and Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William Norchi.

Family and friends may call Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Thomas J. McCarthy officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital Mercy Health Charitable Foundation.

Arrangements are being handled by the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483.

NILES, Ohio – Wanda H. Kanchok, 89, passed away at 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

She was born in Youngstown on November 30, 1926 the daughter of William and Hilda (Patzenhauer) Weidel and lived here most of her life.

Wanda was a graduate of Youngstown Rayen High School and received an Associate Degree from Youngstown State University.

She was a active member of the Niles Women of the Moose and served as a Past President and Graduate Regent. Wanda was also a member of the Professional Business Women’s Association and served as a Past President .

During her lifetime, she worked in the bakery department at TOPS Grocery Store, Niles, and at several other area retail establishments. She was a successful AVON representative and enjoyed painting, doing crossword puzzles and traveling, especially to the casinos.

Wanda is survived by a daughter, Kathy L. Kanchok with whom she lived; son, Bill Kanchok and Cyndi Conn Kanchok of Lordstown; three grandchildren, Bill (Sarah) Kanchok, Mary Henderson, Cindy (Nick) Pawcio; two great grandchildren, Piper Kanchok and T.J. (Catlin) Foder.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer L. Kanchok whom she married in June of 1944 and who died on February 20, 1983; son, Jack Roy Kanchok who died on August 14, 1978 and a sister, Evelyn Yonnotti.

Calling Hours will be Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Dwight Hedglin officiating.

Burial will be in Gustavus Township Cemetery.

NORTH JACKSON, Ohio – Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 30, at the Lane Family Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Joyce A. Moore, 79, of North Jackson who passed away Tuesday, September 27, at University Hospitals of Cleveland after a short illness.

Joyce was born August 12, 1937 in Warren, the daughter of Carl and Ruth (McFadden) Patton.

She retired in 1997 as a Nursing Assistant with Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and the Retirees of Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Joyce was also a past member of the Red Hats Society.

Her husband Howard Wilson Moore, whom she married September 15, 1980, passed away April 24, 2016.

Joyce leaves one daughter Deborah Miller and her husband Jim of Niles, four step-daughters, Cindy (Terry) Krol of North Jackson, Bobbie Jo Moore of Youngstown, Jackie Albright of North Jackson, and Tammi (Rev. Herman, Jr.) Bucklew of Upper Sandusky, two sisters Carol and Judy, a grandson Fred Harris of Warren, as well as 21 other grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her husband, Joyce is preceded in death by a son Norman W. Lancaster, a step-daughter, Judy Prout, three granddaughters, Kelly Jean, Christina Renee, and Laura Marie, and 3 great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 30, at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel where services will be held at 12:30 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Margaret “Peggy” Burkett, 60, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 27, at Greenbriar in Boardman.

Peggy was born August 29, 1956 in Youngstown, a daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth Squibbs.

Peggy was a homemaker.

She was a 1974 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. Peggy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed history and government.

Peggy’s husband, Geoffrey R. Burkett died July 13, 2013.

Peggy is survived by her son, Thomas D. (Heather M.) Burkett of Lisbon; her step-sons, Greg Burkett of Youngstown and Michael Burkett of Niles and her grandchildren, Noah and Chloe Burkett and Annie Perod and Greg Burkett, Jr.

Besides her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

According to Peggy’s wishes, there are no calling hours or services.

MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio – John Louis Strah, 92, passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Wednesday September 28, 2016, at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

He was born in Niles on September 15, 1924, the son of John and Mary (Danyi) Strah and lived in Niles most of his life.

John was a 1943 graduate of Youngstown East High School, a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, a former member of the Knights of Columbus #1681, and the Niles Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was a longtime, well-known musician.

John worked for many years at National Gypsum Company in the maintenance department. He was a welder at the RMI Company, a member of the Youngstown Sheet Metal Union, and was employed by several area heating and cooling companies. He was the owner of Strah Printing, Strah Welding, maintained a Western Union Office, offered leather gifts, camera repairs and locksmith services.

John is survived by three daughters, Theresa (Jim) Hopper of Mineral Ridge, Barbara Farrell of Cortland, Frances (John) Jerome of McDonald; son, Michael J. Strah of Niles; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a sister Mary (Joseph) Harver of Mineral Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Barbara (Koletich) Strah, whom he married on September 29, 1951 and who died on March 3, 1990; two children, John Joseph Strah and Mary Frances Strah, who both died on May 9, 1963.

Service of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 1, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home with the Rev. John Michael Lavelle officiating.

Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Ernestine Alexander, 70, of Austintown passed away Friday, September 23, 2016, at her residence with her family by her side.

Ms. Alexander was born August 21, 1946 in Monroe, Louisiana, the daughter of Ernest and Althanet Coleman Alexander.

Ernestine graduated from Carroll High School, Monroe, Louisiana, in 1964 coming to this area shortly after.

She worked at Windsor House at Liberty Health Care for fifteen years as a restorative care assistant retiring in 2015.

Ms. Alexander was a member of Phillips Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a trustee.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, travelling, and spending time with her family.

Ms. Alexander is survived by two sons, Edmond (Carolyn) Flakes II of Youngstown and Carson (Andrea) Flakes, Sr. of Austintown; three daughters, Sonya (Kevin) Bennett and Angela (M. David) Sanders both of Austintown, and Stephanie (Jermaine) Phillips of Hubbard; thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Rev. Larry Alexander, Hakim Luqmaan, Sherry Ray Alexander, and James Johnson; seven sisters, Dorothy (Bruce) Sims, Patricia Alexander, Cindy (Keith) Neal, Joyce Alexander, LaVonne (Steven) Brinkley, Kimberly Alexander, and Daisy Childs and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.

Calling hours will be held one hour prior to service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the church.
