Tribute: Paul S. Sirochman, Jr.

BROOKFIELD, Ohio – October 2, 2016 is the day we lost an American hero. Paul Sirochman, Jr. fought his last battle.

The scars of war that Paul endured as a United States Marine in the South Pacific have been lifted by the grace of God. He saw action in Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Those events of WWII shaped his character.

He has been supported in life by a loving wife Arloene Tylowski whom he married 65 years ago. Both have been lifelong residents of the Shenango Valley. They moved to Brookfield shortly after marriage. Together they shared rich times and poor times but always found a way to support people who needed “something”. They attended St John Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Clark Street and rumor is that Paul could peel potatoes with his eyes closed in support of St John’s pyrohy sales.

Remaining to cherish memories of his singing Mitch Miller tunes are his five dedicated children Arlo, Mary Sue, Paul, Michael and Joe who cannot carry a tune in a bucket!

He is known widely as the best FIL (Father In Law) to his DIL’s (Daughter In Laws) Christina, Janet, and Ellen.

To the grandchildren “Gigi” was a man full of joy and laughter. Even though he couldn’t hear very well the sounds of a house full of noisy family was his greatest pleasure. The grandkids called the way Paul walked the “Gigi Shuffle”. He was too stubborn to use a cane or walker – he said he would fall backwards!!! But his gait was so erratic that the grandkids were told to follow in case they had to catch him. Stephan, Preston, Sarah, Sam, Nik, Mika, and Autumn each have stories to tell about Gigi.

Paul is a first generation American born in 1924. He toiled for over 40 years in the “Z” building of Westinghouse. His outgoing personality and wit was entertaining to everyone. He was the unofficial Mayor of Brookfield to the neighbors.

Funeral services for Paul will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes – Madasz Chapel in Brookfield, Ohio.

Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. prior to services.

Burial will take place at Brookfield Township Cemetery following full military honors.

When Paul disembarked in California from the battleship that brought him home from the South Pacific the Salvation Army gave him 2 donuts and a cup of coffee. Since then every Veterans Day, Paul has delivered coffee and donuts to the Salvation Army. Please honor his memory by sending donations to the Salvation Army. No flowers please.
