William J. Leo, Jr., Sebring, Ohio

SEBRING, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – William “Bill” J. Leo, Jr., age 82 passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday, February 16, 2020 at Crandall Medical Center.

He was born April 20, 1937 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, son of the late William J., Sr. and Antoinette (Locareno) Leo.

Bill worked at Economy Super Market, Valley Wholesale and General Motors.

He was a long-time resident of Salem and member of Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church in Salem.

Bill worked tirelessly for Habitat for Humanity.

Husband to Susan (Collins) Leo whom he married September 7, 1968; father to Anthony C. Leo and Marcie J. Gregory; grandfather to five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother to Helen Thull, Dorothy Lorio, Rita Krol and Albert Leo; uncle to 15 nieces and nephews and a dear friend to so many. He will be missed by a those lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Salem with Pastor Aimee Raymond officiating.

Margaret Ann Matos, Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Services will be 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home for Mrs. Margaret Ann Matos, 67, of Youngstown, who transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Mrs. Matos was born August 17, 1952 in Lenior, North Carolina, a daughter of Robert and Lillie Anderson Davenport. 

She had been employed as a furniture maker with the Broad Hill Furniture Factory. 

She was a member of Temple Emmanuel SDA Church, its Deaconess and choir ministries. 

She loved singing, dancing, shopping and being with her grandchildren and family.

She leaves to mourn her passing but to rejoice in her peace, her daughter, Rachelle Davenport of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Jermor (fiancée, Shavonna), Trina (fiancé, Eli), Cherelle and Lacretia all of Youngstown; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Davenport of Lenior, North Carolina; two sisters, Lillie Shelley of Youngstown and Charlotte Davenport of Lenior, North Carolina and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pedro, whom she married in 1991 and who passed away in 2012; a sister, Dorothy Davenport and two brothers, Billy and Edward Davenport.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. -12:00 Noon at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home prior to services.

Services were held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Ramon Vonzell Cooper, 29, of Youngstown, who departed this earthly  life on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

Mr. Cooper, affectionately known as “Coop” and “Monie”, was born January 26, 1991 in Youngstown, a son of Lorenzo Hilton and Condalese Cooper. 

He was employed by Vinyl Profiles LLC and was making preparations to obtain his CDL license.   

A very fashionable young man, Ramon enjoyed cars and loved being with family.  There was always something about his spirit that made you love being around him. He loved playing sports and was a Denver Broncos fan.

He leaves to cherish his memory his father of New Jersey and mother of Youngstown; 16 siblings, Alayshia Griffin, Andrew Cooper, Andrew Griffin, Arqualia Hilton, Lorenzo Hilton, Jr., Kameisha Harris, LaJuan Clinkscale, Lovonna Harris, Jason Pinkard, Leandre Jackson all of Youngstown, Shaquesha Hilton, Lakeya Hilta, D’angelo Hilton, Sha’Kera Hilton, Essence Hilton and Darren Stillings; godmother, Pamela Withers; grandmother, Susan Cooper and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents,  Jesse Cooper, Jr., Lorenzo Young, Rosemarie Corinealdi; great-grandparents, Jesse Cooper, Sr., Christine Cooper, Julia Huff, Joeneal Carter, Sr. and uncle and aunt, Joeneal and Evon Carter among  other family.

Virginia Carter, Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – On Thursday, February 6, 2020, Mrs. Virginia Carter, 80, of Youngstown went home to her eternal resting place.

Mrs. Carter, lovingly known as “Ginney” by her family, was born May 9, 1939 in Youngstown, the daughter of John W., Sr. and Loreen Williams Averhart. 

Beloved by many, her life’s experiences demonstrated the fullness of a life well lived. Virginia was an avid basketball and baseball player growing up in the “Monkey’s Nest” section of Youngstown. She was a Y-Teen member at the Hayes Jr. High School. She loved live plays and participated in drama club in high school and was a graduate of The Rayen High School.

Virginia worked in the dietary department at the former South Side Hospital.

With the introduction of a beautician program at Choffin School of Trade, Virginia was one of two of the first African Americans to graduate with a beautician’s license. 

She loved crocheting and developed a skill at making rugs.                                                                         

Mrs. Carter was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a part of the Celestial Specials singing group often performing on live radio. She sang alto and her talents led her to sing in the #2 choir at New Bethel Baptist. She also had a dual church membership at Reed’s Chapel AME Church for over 50 years.

She was head of the precinct committee in her 2nd ward for over 40 years and was an excellent cook and baker. 

Married for 59 years, Virginia married Raymond G. Carter, Sr. on July 16, 1960. To this union, three sons were born, Raymond G., Jr., John Amos and Dewayne Dwight Carter. Virginia was known as a loving, devoted wife and mother having a compassionate heart, sternness in her opinion and her willingness to serve.                                                             

A loving wife and mother she leaves behind her devoted husband, Raymond G. Carter Sr.; her sons, Raymond G., Jr. (Glendorline Angel) Carter of O’Fallon, Illinois, John A. (Cynthia) Carter of Nashville, Tennessee and Dewayne D. (Christian) of Columbus; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; siblings, Annie Fryson  and Louis (Brenda) Averhart, both of Youngstown and a host of  loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Lorene Averhart Buggs and John W. Averhart.

Visitation was on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the New Bethel Baptist Church, with funeral services following immediately at 10:00 a.m.

HUBBARD, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Swierz officiating, for Paul E. Groves, 85, who died Saturday, February 15, 2020 at his home.

He was born May 6, 1934 in New Castle, Pennsylvania a son of Charles and Ruth Fullwood Groves and moved to Hubbard in 1971 from New Castle.

Mr. Groves served with the United States Army during the Korean War and was an engineer at Conrail for 47 years.

He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3307 in Youngstown.

Paul loved anything to do with sports especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

His wife, the former Sylvia K. Reider, whom he married May 4, 1957, died July 13, 2015.

Paul leaves a son, Paul A. Groves and his fiancée, Tracy McClearn, of Hubbard; a granddaughter, Nichole Reed and her husband, Ron, of Hubbard and two great-grandchildren, Cyler and Paige Reed.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia and three brothers, Robert, Jim and Lawrence Groves.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery.

Rilla Catherine Lesher, East Palestine, Ohio

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Rilla Catherine Lesher, 59, formerly of Lisbon, went home to be with her Lord, her mommy and daddy and many others on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2020 at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Born November 26, 1960 in Fontana, California, she was a daughter of the late Roy C. and Janet L. (Brown) Lesher.

A 1978 graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Cathy had worked in a variety of positions in healthcare over the years including as an EMT, phlebotomist and CPR instructor.  She had served as a volunteer receptionist at a ministry in Kalamazoo, Michigan and attended Davenport University. She also studied art history at Kent State Salem.  

She lived her Christian faith by helping anyone she could. She loved big band music and 80’s music, especially Steve Perry, George Michael and Kenny G.

She is survived by her sister, Janni (Greg) Borroni of East Palestine.

Calling hours are from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Weber Funeral Home, 340 East Lincoln Way, Lisbon.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 at the funeral home with the Rev, Fritz Nelson officiating.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – A home going celebration in honor of Mr. Gregory Lewis Johnson will be held Thursday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Avenue in Youngstown.

Mr. Johnson departed this life Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

Mr. Johnson was born March 10, 1957 in Youngstown, a son of William and Matilda Emmerson Johnson.

He was a 1975 graduate of East High School and proudly served in the United States Navy last serving on the USS Wichita.

Gregory was a cook at various local restaurants, retiring from the Niles Bob Evans in 2011.

He was an AVID Browns fan and anything Ohio such as the Tribe, Cavaliers and Ohio State.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Barbara Ann Ester Johnson who he married December 20, 2003; his children, Gregory Johnson, Jr. and Veritta Johnson, both of Cleveland, Ohio; his grandson, John Davis, Jr. that he was raising as his own son; his stepsons, Daniel (Heather) Ester of Campbell, Ohio, Chester and Matthew Nelms both of Youngstown; his siblings, William “Poe”, Johnnie R., Shirley V. and Timothy Johnson and Marguerite Jackson all of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, William, Jr., David D., Rosia Lee, Eddie B., Ruby Lee, Margie A., Gus and Lee Johnson and his grandchildren, Michael Davis and Kennedie Johnson.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 20 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m at the Jaylex Event Center prior to the service.

Richard E. Stonebraker, Sr., Girard, Ohio

GIRARD, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Richard E. Stonebraker, Sr., 90, of Girard, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020, at Liberty Health Care.

Richard was born November 24, 1929 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Harry E. and Helen (Mattingly) Stonebraker.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

After he served he worked for U.S. Steel in McDonald and retired after 44 years.

He was a member of Kinsman Conservation Club. Richard enjoyed going hunting and fishing.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 63 years, Amanda (Starcher) Stonebraker whom he married July 21, 1956; his children, William (Charlene) Sampson of Girard, Edward (Trina) Stonebraker of Girard and Richard E. Stonebraker, Jr. of Farmdale; along with seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

Richard is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Stonebraker and his stepbrother, Robert Mock.

Funeral services with military honors will be held on Thursday, February 20, 3:00 p.m. at Blackstone’s Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Carolyn DeGeorge, 68, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 16, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Carolyn was born on August 21, 1951 in Youngstown, the daughter of Frank and Concetta (Marchese) DeGeorge.

Carolyn, who was lovingly referred to as Carol, mom, aunt, grandma, nana and mama, enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. Since one of her meals could feed several families, Carol frequently invited friends and extended family to her home for a meal. If someone were unable to attend, she would send leftovers. She greatly enjoyed sitting and talking at the table with her frequent visitors (friends and family). One would visit her as a stranger or acquaintance and leave a friend or loved one. Her heart was even larger than her meals.

Carol will always be remembered lovingly by her husband, Michael Decker whom she married September 11, 1999; five children, David (Christine) Madick, Deric (Tiffany) Madick, Candace (Michael) Hsu, Jeramy (Ashley) Eckenrode and Joseph Eckenrode; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Elena DeGeorge and three brothers, Francis (Melody) DeGeorge, James (Angel) DeGeorge and Robert DeGeorge.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Dione Madick; sister, Patricia (Richard) Jones and sister-in-law, Margaret DeGeorge.

Loved ones may call from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Rossi Bros. & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. There will also be a prayer service immediately following the calling hours.

Bonnie Lou Sepanek, Warren, Ohio

WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Bonnie Lou Sepanek, 64, passed away early Monday morning, February 17, following a short battle with cancer at St. Joseph Hospital.

She was born March 27, 1955, in Warren, Ohio to the late Orbin L. and Patricia R. (Morgan) Holland.

Bonnie was a graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School.

She grew up in Warren and was part of the “Stiles Street Gang.”

She worked at Valley Foods in Youngstown, Yale Security/Joe the Key Man in Warren and for the phone company.

She enjoyed watching birds from the deck with a cup of coffee (especially her red-headed woodpecker, Lucy); dipping her toes in the sand on a sunny beach and the sounds and sights of Times Square and East Village in New York City. She always enjoyed telling stories about the time she got to walk a red carpet and when she hung out with Metallica. She loved all music, especially Led Zeppelin and her Sunday reggae, played from her faithful Amazon Alexa.
A marching band mom and Eagle Scout mom, she was especially proud of her children and their accomplishments. She will be missed by her family and friends and remembered for her beautiful smile, generosity and compassion.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Christopher Sepanek; two children, Sarah and Ian; a sister, Patricia (Douglas) McIntyre; two brothers, Tim (Stephanie) Holland and Orbin Holland and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her brother, Gregory Holland.

In accordance with Bonnie’s wishes there will be no services at this time and cremation has taken place.

Arrangements are being handled by the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home in Warren.

Edward Dennis Virostek, Poland, Ohio

POLAND, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Edward Dennis Virostek, 78, died peacefully Saturday morning, February 15, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Edward was born June 17, 1941 in Homestead, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Charles and Agnes (Bresko) Virostek.

Edward attended St. Michael’s School and Munhall High School in Munhall, Pennsylvania.  Upon graduation he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 

Edward spent his professional career as a Special Agent for the U.S. Treasury Department and retired in 1991 after more than 20 years of service. 

Edward proudly served as an aircraft mechanic for the U.S. Air Force Reserve base in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from which he also retired after 20 years of service. 

In retirement, Edward entered the business world as a real estate investor and entrepreneur.  

Edward volunteered in community and charitable organizations. He served as President and member of several groups including the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club, Poland Historic Society and Poland Band Parents. He also enjoyed coaching youth soccer and baseball.

Edward was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and volunteered as a CCD teacher, member of the choir and Eucharistic minister. 

Edward’s leisure time was spent on the family farm – raising various livestock, planting assorted crops and restoring antique cars and tractors. He could often be seen proudly driving them around town and in various parades. Edward was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending family vacations at Walt Disney World.  

In addition to his parents, Charles and Agnes, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles.

He is survived by his wife of 55 wonderful years, the former Mary Jane Brugos, whom he married August 29, 1964; his six children, Barbara (Thomas) Gravel of Fargo, North Dakota, Edward, Jr. of Poland, Christine (Stephen) Murphy of Poland, Kathleen (Mark) Lyda of Osprey, Florida, Robert (Amanda) of Poland and Matthew (Kelcie) of Poland and 12 grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson, Caroline, Mark, Adam, Katherine, Andrew, Colin, Emily, Sawyer and Theodore with one granddaughter expected soon.

Calling hours for friends and family will be held at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N Main Street, Poland, Ohio on Sunday, February 23 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. and will conclude with a eulogy to celebrate Edward’s life.

The funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish with Monsignor William Connell officiating.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2010 at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Ernest Douglas Meadows II, 84, of Youngstown, who transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, February 14, 2020.

Mr. Meadows, affectionately known as “Dee”, was born July 27, 1935 in Harlan, Kentucky, a son of Ernest D., Sr. and Willie Lou  Ellis Meadows. 

He was a 1952 graduate of Rosenwald High School in Kentucky. 

He had been employed with U.S. Steel and with Youngstown Sheet and Tube, retiring in 1979. 

Ernest was a sports enthusiast, who enjoyed watching all the Cleveland teams–Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. He also loved watching golf and especially watching Tiger Woods. Among other things, he enjoyed cooking, bingo, fishing and gardening.

He leaves to mourn his passing but to rejoice in his peace, five children, Ernest D. Meadows III of Ohio, Faynell Wallace of California, Pastor Kevin (Wanda) Meadows of Florida and twins, Dana Meadows and Shana Meadows-Wall both of Youngstown; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Thomas of Youngstown; his cousins, Elmer Morris who was like a brother to him of Youngstown and Jimmy Ellis of West Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clarence Meadows and his grandparents.

Visitation will be Friday, February 21, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home prior to services.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes)- Ronald J. Matasek, 82, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020.     

He was born September 25, 1937 in Youngstown, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Ellen Kruel Matasek.

He graduated from Ursuline High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from the former Youngstown College.

He worked as a CPA for Ernest & Ernest, Hill, Barth, & King, Goddard & Thomas and most recently Burn’s O’Hare & Bella.

He was an active member of St. Dominic Church.

He enjoyed auto racing.

Ronald leaves behind to cherish his memory, his siblings, Marilyn (Tom) Morella, Joe (Diane) Matasek and Helen Matasek; his sisters-in-law, Judy (Tim) McCarthy and Diane Ernst; brother-in-law, Ted (Kathy) Stinson and several nieces and nephews and great-nephews.     

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Patricia Stinson, who he married August 21, 1976 and whom passed away August 10, 2018 and his stepmother, Helen Matasek.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the Kubina Yuhasz Wasko Funeral Home and again on Friday, February 21, 2020 at St. Dominic Parish, from 9:00 – 9:50 a.m., followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in New Bedford, Pennsylvania.

WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Nancy I. Mihalik, 88 of Warren, died Tuesday morning, February 18, 2020, at Hospice House in Poland.

She was born August 29, 1931 in Niles, the daughter of the late Royce and Pearl Jordan McCormick. She lived in Niles until she was married in 1970.

Nancy was a 1949 graduate of Niles McKinley High School.

She then worked in the lab at Republic Steel, where she met her future husband, George. After her husband’s retirement, she worked helping him in maintenance at the Warner House in Warren.

Nancy was a member of St. James Church site, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish, where she worked with George maintaining the church grounds.

She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She and her husband, George, enjoyed doing activities together including hand quilting, yardwork and flower gardening at home, traveling, playing cards, entertaining and golfing, including in a couples league. Nancy enjoyed counted cross stitch and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie L. Mihalik of Warren; two sons, David L. (Tami) Mihalik of Lawton, Oklahoma and Brian L. (Patti) Mihalik of Harrisburg, North Carloina; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Kevin (Zuzana), David, Randell (Alma), Tyler, Sarah, Breona and Jillian; seven great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Albert (Fran) Mihalik of Youngstown.

Her husband of 46 years, George L. Mihalik, whom she married March 21, 1970 preceded her in death in March 2016. Five brothers, Jack, Royce “Pete”, Norman, Jim and Joe McCormick have also preceded in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parrish (St. James Church site), 2532 Burton Street SE in Warren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2020 and Friday morning, February 21 from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren.

Burial will be at St. Stephens Cemetery in Niles.

Mildred E. (Krayniak) Krivak, Sharpsville, PA

SHARPSVILLE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Mildred E. (Krayniak) Krivak, age 99, of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020 at her residence.

Born October 27, 1920 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George and Susan (Kucera) Krayniak.

She married William Krivak on March 30, 1951 and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1995.

Mildred attended Brookfield Schools and went on to get her LPN degree from the Mercer County Career Center and one of her greatest accomplishments was graduating from Penn State Shenango at the age of 80.

Mildred worked during WWII as a welder at General American, welding Sherman Tanks and gained the nickname Corky. After she obtained her nursing degree, she went on to work for both St. John XXIII Home and Sharon General Hospital until her retirement in 1982. She also ran her own strawberry business, Millie’s Strawberries for over 35 years.

In her spare time Mildred liked to paint and do all kinds of crafts. She loved animals, especially cats and was both a Girl Scout Leader and 4H Leader. She was known to be very determined, strong willed and caring.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served on church council, sang in the choir, was a member of the Ruth Altar Guild and was the first recipient of the church’s Stewart of the Year award.

Mildred is survived by one daughter, Linda K. (Michael) Chalupka of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who referred to her as gram or granny, Michael (Leanne) Chalupka, children, Christopher and Ashley, Christine (Jim) Miodrag, children, Taylor and Tyler, William (Jen) Chalupka, children, Ryan, Hayley and Jonathan, Matthew (Kaylee) Chalupka and Whitney (Justin) Laverty, children, Conor and Thomas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Sue, Marge, Helen, Pauline and Ruthie and one brother, George.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State Street, Sharon, Pennsylvania.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with The Rev. Dr. Gary Nelson officiating.

Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Church Cemetery.

SALEM, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Janet Mae (Kring) Jury 69, of Salem, died at 9:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Salem Regional Medical Center, Salem.

She was born on November 17, 1950 in Salem, the daughter of the late William and Betty Jane (Reese) Kring.

She had worked at Ort Furniture Company for 27 years.

She is survived by her children, Jenny Lynn Isaacs of Lisbon and stepson, William Jury of Salem; siblings, her twin, Joyce (Sherman) Johnson and Linda (Kevin) Baker both of Lisbon, Cindy (Brack) Gentry of Carrollton, Vicky (Curt) Lillie of Hanoverton, Valerie (Michael) Trimm of Greenville, South Carolina and Stephen (Kimberly) Rendziniak of Salem, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on March 20, 2010 by her husband, Robert Jury; sister, Rebecca Kaye Weyand and siblings, Louis Kring and Shirley Woodworth.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The family is asking that friends and family come to spend time and visit when they are able during the visiting times.

She will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery in Salem.

LEETONIA, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Anthony “Tony” Mario Sposato, age 90, of Leetonia, died on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Whispering Pines Village, Columbiana.

He was born on April 12, 1929 in Leetonia, a son of the late Giovanni and Rosaria Gabriele Sposato.

Anthony was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. 

He had worked as an architect and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Leetonia.

Anthony is survived by a brother, Joseph Sposato of North Lima.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Sposato and Dino Sposato

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.

A eulogy service will be held at 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia, with Father Christopher Cicero officiating.

Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – There will be a memorial service on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel for Phyllis R. Strange, 82 of Austintown who died Sunday morning, February 16, 2020 at Briarfield Manor.

Phyllis was born February 24, 1937 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Walter and Wilda (Cox) Cook and lived most of her life in the area.

She graduated from South High School in 1955 and worked several different places in the area including Sheeley’s Furniture where she worked in sales for over five years and then Nemenz Grocery Store, where she worked in the deli.

Phyllis was a volunteer for Help Hotline and enjoyed crafts, cooking and gardening. Phyllis loved her pets, whether it was a cat, dog or bird, her home always included a pet.

She leaves two daughters, Melinda (Brian) Governor of Canfield and Michelle Clark of New Middletown and three grandchildren, Olivia (Jack) McDonald, Meredith Governor and Reid Clark. Phyllis also leaves a sister, Karen (Bill) Rogers of Neshannock Station, New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Cook and Wilda Jordan.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 27 from 5:00 – 6:45 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel, followed by the service at 7:00 p.m.

WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Rosetta Daniel Richburg, 91, of 1320 Mahoning Avenue, Warren, departed this life Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 9:00 p.m. at Community Skilled Health Care Centre, following complications from an extended illness.

She was born July 1, 1928, in Highland Home, Alabama, the daughter of Arthur L. and Lilla J. Peterson Daniel, residing in the area since 1980, coming from Detroit, Michigan.

She was employed with Albert’s Nursing Home for seven years as an LPN, before retiring in 1974. She also worked for Crenshaw Community Hospital in Alabama.

She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed cooking, sewing and doing hair.

She leaves to mourn her sister, Ms. Dorothy L. Daniel of Warren and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur Daniel, Jr. and Leon Daniel and two sisters, Ms. Mary Francis Daniel and Mrs. Lelia Perdue.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home Chapel, where calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service 10:00 -11:00 a.m.

Burial will take place at Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery.
