Walter A. Ramp, Jr., Greenville, PA

GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Walter Ramp, Jr., 68, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

JR was born in Greenville, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1951 to the late Walter and Genevieve (Mitchell) Ramp, Sr.

JR was employed by Hodge Foundry for 30 years. He then became an owner and operator of Ramp Trucking until retiring in 2019. Most recently, he was employed part-time as a delivery driver for Greenville Auto Parts.

He was married on January 14, 1977 to the former Genie Bertocchi in West Salem Township. She survives at home.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, JR is survived by two daughters, Melissa Ramp and her significant other, James Richards and Becky Ramp Dobi and her husband, John, both of Greenville; four grandchildren, Steven, Cherise, Scotty and Ayden and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy; two brothers-in-law, Paul and Michael; a sister-in-law, Carol and a nephew, Mikey.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, February 20, 2020 12:00 – 12:45 p.m. at Osborne-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 73-75 Columbia Avenue, Greenville.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the funeral home.

Coy E. Stevenson, Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Coy E. Stevenson, 84, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020 at his home.

Coy was born March 18, 1935 in Castlewood, Pennsylvania, the son of Walter and Melissa (Johnson) Stevenson and came to the area as a young man.

Coy was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from 1952 until 1956.

He returned from active duty and worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube where he retired as a general foreman. After his retirement from Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Coy worked as an ambulette driver with Lane Life Trans for a number of years.

His wife of 62 years, the former Mary Jane Wiley, whom he married July 4, 1953, passed away February 18, 2016.

Coy leaves three sons, Coy L. of Carson City, Nevada, Richard of Bethel Island, California and Jeffery of Austintown. He also left five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, Coy was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann Tillia and three brothers, William R., George D. and Raymond W. Stevenson.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Coy will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February, 19, 2020 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes – Austintown Chapel where friends may call from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

SEBRING, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Donald G. Hill, 63, of Sebring passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital.

Donald was born on April 9, 1956 in Alliance, Ohio to the late Hayes and Ruby (Puckett) Hill.

Donald worked for United Die and Tool and for Electronic Circuit and Design as a gold plater.

Donald was a proud United Sates Navy Veteran serving two consecutive times.

Donald enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds, fishing, collecting ships and lighthouses and listening to older music.

He would always be willing to help anyone out and enjoyed fixing things.

He was a member of the Lions Club and ELKS.

Above all, Donald adored his grandchildren and his family.

Donald is survived by his wife, Karen (Reed) Hill, whom he married February 6, 1982; a daughter, Holly Schroeder; stepchildren, Joann Martin and Allen Reed; siblings, Phil Hill, Doug Hill, Karen May and Phyllis “Angel” (Tom) Reed; a brother-in-law, Dan Witham and grandchildren, Caidee, Caylee and Caycee Schroeder, Shyann and Logan Martin and Hannah and Nicholas Reed. He also left behind several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Witham; brother-in-law, Dallas May and sister-in-law, Diane Drayer.

A funeral service will take place at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery, Sebring.

HANOVERTON, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Ellen Christine (Quinn) Whaley 70, of Hanoverton, died Friday, February 14, 2020 at her home following a short illness.

She was born on April 17, 1949 in Leetonia, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Reddick) Quinn.

She was a 1968 graduate of Salem High School.

She formerly worked 28 years as a baker for Columbiana Sparkle Market.

She was a quiet person who liked spending time at home on the computer and watching TV.

She is survived by her sons, Walter and Travis Whaley both of Hanoverton; siblings, Robert (Daisy) Quinn of Orlando, Florida and Elizabeth Kilgore of Columbiana and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Louis “Pete”, Roy and Ralph Quinn.

There will be no public servics or calling hours held.

James D. Carlos, Poland, Ohio

POLAND, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – James D. Carlos, 81, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center

He was born October 13, 1938 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son of the late James D. and Helen M. (Ontko) Carlos, Jr.

James was a 1956 graduate of Farrell High School.

He served his country in the United States Army.

James worked as a sales representative for numerous companies around the area.

He was a member of Holy Family Church and their Third Source.

He was a 3rd Degree member of Christ Our Savior Knights of Columbus Council #4471 and also its 4th Degree Assembly and a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Years ago, James enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.

His wife, Judith L. (Cook) Carlos, whom he married September 7, 1963, passed away May 24, 2009.

James is survived by his two sisters, Marilyn Carlos and Nancy Carlos of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Sandy Carlos of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; an aunt, Bev Magda of Youngstown; two nieces, Robbin Carlos of New Castle and Amy (Todd) Titus of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; a great-nephew, Christian Carlos; two great-nieces, Lindsey Fiscus and Carley Fiscus and numerous cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, R. Tom Carlos.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, February 18, 2020, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., where the rosary will be recited by Knights of Columbus at 6:45 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, where family and friends may call again from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at the church.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – A celebration of life service was held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Jaylex Event Center for Anita Fran Wilson of Boardman, formerly of Delaware Avenue who passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

Fran was born on January 21, 1962 in Youngstown, Ohio, the youngest daughter of Herman and Mary Lois Rhodes Wilson.

She was a 1980 graduate of The Rayen School.

As a child, she was baptized at Zionhill Baptist Church and her strong foundation of faith remained with her throughout her life.

Fran was the primary caregiver for her parents. She loved the holidays and enjoyed music, cooking, crafts, decorating and social media where she had a huge following with her daily inspirations.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family: her mother, Mary Lois Wilson; five sisters, Marian Wilson of Youngstown, Joette (Charles) Logan, Maureen Wilson, Inger Wilson all of Liberty Township and Brenda (Gary) Rozier of Campbell; 11 nieces and nephews whom loved their Auntie Fran, Passion who she helped rear, Janeen, Cameron, Corey, Alexis, Jasmine, Ashley and Aaron (Nunzia), Mack, Tameeka, Sheena and great-nieces and nephews, Kay (Josh), Kylan, Alexia, Aniya, Robbie, Keegan, Keenan, William, Chloe and Corey, Jr. She also leaves her uncle, Charles (Elsie) Rhodes; her life-long friends, Arlene Rosemond and Lona Murzda and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Wilson and nephews, Randy and Wadell Casey.

The family would like to thank the emergency room and the second floor ICU doctors and nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital Boardman.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – A homegoing celebration in honor of Mr. Duane Marcell Eldridge will be held Monday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Avenue in Youngstown.

Mr. Eldridge departed this life Friday, February 7, 2020 in Youngstown.

Duane, known to his family and friends as “Snow”, was born February 7,1972 in Youngstown a son of Fedric B. Eldridge and Dionne Tharpe Eldridge.

He loved to spend time with his family and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Duane Eldridge JR, Bria, Samara, Davon Leon and Na’shiya Eldridge; his father; his grandmother, Ida Mae Tharpe; his sisters, Deanne E. and Charmissa C.; his niece, Malaysha; a host of other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dionne P. Eldridge and his grandparents, Thad L. Tharpe Sr; James and Rebecca Eldridge.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 17, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Jaylex Event Center.

Interment will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.

Jan W. Sallaz, Cortland, Ohio

CORTLAND, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Jan W. Sallaz, 74, of Cortland, entered peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 12:25 a.m. at Vibra Hospital in Warren.

He was born Saturday, September 29, 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona the son of the late Wayne and Dixie Maddux Sallaz.

A 1963 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Jan enlisted with the Marine Corps and served his country abroad during the Vietnam War as an engineer equipment mechanic. For his service to his country he was awarded the M-14 Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one-star, Good Conduct Medal 1st Award and Air Medal-6th Award with Silver Star. As a testimony for his bravery and service he was awarded an honorable discharge on June 30, 1967 with the rank of sergeant.

After his service to his country, Jan worked before retiring in 2003 from Packard Electric where he was very active as a union leader.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1090 in Warren and the DAV Trumbull County Chapter #11. 

Jan enjoyed meeting regularly for coffee with his VA friends, vacationing to Marco Island, Florida, camping, fishing and was a strong supporter of the Cleveland Browns and Indians.

Fond memories of Jan will always be remembered by his wife of ten years, the former Gail E. Meenachan, whom he married on December 29, 2009; two children, Dr. Jeffrey (Noelle) Sallaz of Tucson, Arizona and Julie (Steve) Kurtz of Cortland; two stepsons, Jay (Dr. Kelly) Tomasic of Berlin Center and Paul Tomasic of Berlin Center and a stepdaughter, Tiffany (Peter) Kramer of Girard. Jan is also survived by his five sisters, Sue (Ken) Zucco of Warren, Ruth (Ron) Frye of Cortland, Gail (Sam) Trina of Howland, Brenda (Joe) Wilson of Cortland and Karen Chalas of Vienna and grandchildren, Theodore Sallaz and Ryan and Mallory Kurtz, Joshua, Alex and Anna Kramer and Zachary, Logan, Olivia and Ava Tomasic.

Besides his parents, Jan was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Alberto Chalas and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Meenachan.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon in the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 12:00 Noon, following visitation in the funeral home. 

Burial with full military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County Honor Guard American Legion Post 540 will follow in Southington Reformed Cemetery in Southington.

The family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Jan’s name to the VFW Post 1090, 611 High Street NE, Warren, OH 44483 or to DAV Chapter 11, 2044 Youngstown Road SE, Warren, OH 44484.

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Theresa M. Shaffer, 71, of Lowellville, died Sunday morning, February 16, 2020 at her home. 

She was born July 4, 1948 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Alfred and Annie (Maravola) Bonace and was a lifelong area resident.

Theresa was a graduate of Mohawk High School and was a manager for Walmart in New Castle. She had also previously worked for General Motors in Lordstown.

Theresa was an avid bowler and she enjoyed gardening and especially spending time with her family. 

Theresa was a member of Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church. 

She leaves three daughters, Mary Ann Domenic and Rose Chaney, with whom she made her home and Melissa Domenic of Cape Coral, Florida; her sisters, Tina (Jack) Shaffer, Monique Franke and Kim Franke; her three brothers, Anthony and John Bonace and Michael Torok; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Bonace.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Lowellville with Pastor Leo Faher officiating.

Friends may call from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m., prior to the services at the funeral home on Friday, February 21.

David Edward Patton, Sr., Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – The family will receive visitors at 5:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 at Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Road, Coitsville for David Edward Patton, Sr. who died early Saturday, February 15 at Hospice House of Poland.

David was born January 8, 1954 in Youngstown, a son of the late Samuel M. and Eugenia M. (Summers) Patton, Jr. and was a lifelong area resident.

He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1972 then immediately joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served. Below deck, he was nicknamed “the oil king” of the boiler technicians.

David was a jack of all trades who excelled in everything he did, including his career as a local #33 union sheet metal worker. He started in 1977 as an apprentice working his way up to business agent retiring with 44 years invested. He became a welding instructor for the local Sheet Metal Union Apprenticeship program.

David began his walk with Jesus as His Lord and Savior in 1977. He was a faithful member at Victory Christian Center Church where he loved worshiping the Lord and participating in the Gate Keepers and Outdoorsmen groups.

He loved his grandkids and always found ways to spend time with them by joining the Civil Air Patrol with Jason and taking all the kids on vacations and hunting trips. David loved to explore the world and take his family on his adventures. He was an avid hunter, baseball and soccer player, scuba diver, skier, biker, camper and marksman, who enjoyed spending time in nature with his family. With all that he juggled, David was an amazing husband and father who always put his family first. David rode his motorcycle all the way up to this past fall. His brother, Frank, is sad to lose his favorite riding partner whom he shocked the most by buying a Harley. David was a good man who loved his family and was always there for all who needed him. He was a loyal husband and family man with high integrity that was a Godly example to all he encountered.

He had many prized possessions but his most prized possession was his family. He leaves his wife, “Pina”, the former Josephine Polifroni, whom he married July 5, 1975; a daughter, Maria (Kevin) Wingard of Chardon; two sons, David Patton, Jr. and Joe Patton, both of Austintown and three grandchildren, Jason “Jaybird” Grady, Catherine “Buggie” Leipply and J. Noah “Bear” Patton. David also leaves three brothers, his twin, Bruce (Cindy) Patton of Arizona, Frank Patton of Boardman and Daniel Patton of Lisbon and a sister, Janet (Wendell) Stepp of Florida. He also loved spending time with all of his nieces and nephews, Jen, Christy, Melissa, Dustin, Katherine, Rebecca and Amanda.

Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by a nephew, Luke Patton.

David will be dearly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sean Christopher Dolata, Hermitage, PA

HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Sean Christopher Dolata, 28, of Hermitage, passed away Sunday evening, February 16, 2020, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.

Sean was born May 16, 1991, in Sharon, the son of Geraldine T. Dolata.

He graduated with honors, from Hickory High School, class of 2009. He was the varsity football manager and was voted “Most School Spirit” among his graduating class.

He worked alongside his grandfather in his woodcarving shop, WD Studios in Hermitage.

Sean was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville.

An avid NASCAR fan, he looked forward to going to races, especially Bristol, to cheer on his favorite drivers, Jimmy Johnson and Denny Hamlin. Sean loved sports, in particular the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He was always happy and enjoyed hunting and going to camp in Tidioute, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his mother, of Hermitage; his maternal grandparents, Walter and Peggy Dolata of Hermitage; an uncle, Michael and Angel Dolata, of Richmond, Illinois; his great-aunts and uncles, Pete and Carole Dolata of Hermitage, Bob and Karen Dolata of Jefferson Township, Fred and Bunny Berecek of Cortland, Ohio and Gerald and Marianne Daugherty of Brookfield, Ohio; his beloved cats, Beckley and Bristol and many cousins.

Anna Mary Lawson, Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Anna Mary Lawson, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 15, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, with her family at her side.

Anna was born August 14, 1928 in Hillsville Pennsylvania, daughter of Dominic and Mary Esposito Carideo.

After her mother passed away Anna was adopted by Italian immigrants, Andy and Mary Russo, they raised her from a young age, showing her the values she held her entire life, gave her a wonderful foundation for caring for others, especially with her love of cooking Italian food.

Anna raised her children and later in life started her own business, Anna’s Pizza and Catering, she then stared working as a cook at Millcreek Children’s Center with Sister Jerome.

Anna has had a 50-year relationship with Saint Patrick’s Church, she and her husband, Ervin, ran the kitchen on Monday night bingo for many years and made pizzas and her famous pepperoni rolls and brownies. She also started selling these items every Friday to help raise money for the church and school. 

Anna was always willing to help with special events at the church and starting in the early 90’s she and so many others worked the St. Patrick’s Spaghetti dinners, this continued until just this past first Sunday in February, she could still be seen working in the kitchen.

Anna’s family was most important to her, taking care of all the children running around gave her so much joy in life.

Anna leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mary Ann (Andy) Terlecky, Donna (David) Mottram, Shelia (Allen) Tensley, Sherry Sellers, Shelly Lawson and Melissa Lawson and stepdaughter, Linda (Pete) Mazzoleni. Anna has over 100 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her husband, Ervin Lawson, who passed away February 9, 1998, Anna was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharlene R. NEW CASTLE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – James E. Black “Jim”, age 85 of New Castle, passed away peacefully in a home with family, on Sunday, February 16, 2020.

Jim was born on February 7, 1935, in New Castle, to the late Elmer and Clara (Kerrigan) Black.

James was a member of St. Vitus Parish, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was previously employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube.

He was a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins and Steelers. Jim also spent time watching WWE Wrestling, playing cornhole, doing crossword puzzles and traveling to Florida. He was a superior pool player and once owned a store/pool hall called “J&E” with his wife, author Elizabeth Black.

Jim was a doting husband, an instrumental figure in the lives of his loved ones, and played a hand in raising some of his stepgrandchildren. He was always more than happy to help with any circumstance and used his carpentry skills to the benefit of his family. He had a great sense of humor and is known for phrases like, “You’re pulling my leg” and “I’ll think about it, kid.” James most enjoyed spending time and especially the holidays, with his family and he will be missed, forever.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Covelli) Black of 48 years; his son, William “Bill” Black (Suze) of Dunedin, Florida; a grandson, Alex Black of St. Petersburg, Florida and a brother, Phillip Black of New Castle.

In addition, he had three stepchildren, Sandra Wilson (Lee Harmon), Rosanne Bradley (Steve) and Albert Jurina, Jr. (Carol). Jim also had eight beloved stepgrandchildren and ten stepgreat-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Black; brother, Daniel Black, Sr. and two sisters, Marge Janis and Patricia Malizia.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.

Blessing services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Father Brendan Dawson of Holy Spirit Parish will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Funeral Services at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.

Andrew J. “Jim” Schulick, Austintown, Ohio

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Andrew J. “Jim” Schulick, 79, passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 14, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Jim was born December 12, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andy and Helen Mesaros Schulick and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1958 graduate of Wilson High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Schulick worked as a service tech for Culligan/Gordon Brothers for 40 years, retiring in 1995.

Jim was a member of Youngstown Rod and Custom Car Club and of the Outcast Car Club. He greatly enjoyed car cruises, fishing and visiting casinos.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Shelly (Joe) Mazerik of Austintown; his son, James (Tracey) Schulick of Middleburg, Florida; his brother, Robert (Joanne) Schulick of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Kayla Mazerik (R.J. Balog), Ronny Duvall, Jimmy Schulick and Kylee Schulick; several nieces and nephews; two great-nephews, John Blinsky and Henry Hecker; a sister-in-law, Vicki (Mike) Scahill of Boardman; a daughter-in-law, Jayme Dixon Schulick and many extended family members and friends.

His wife of 56 years, Marsha L. Knight Schulick, whom he married June 18, 1959, passed away Feb. 12, 2016. A son, Robert Schulick, also preceded Jim in death.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a Celebration of Life service will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Jim’s family would like to thank the many family members and friends who helped care for him throughout his illness.

BESSEMER, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Samuel Vincent Varano, a 91 year old Army Airborne Veteran of the Korean War passed away peacefully at his home in the early hours of Monday, February 17, 2020 with his family by his side.

Samuel was born in Kulpmount, Pennsylvania on September 30, 1928 the son of the late Rosario and Catherine Varan Varano.

He served with the 82nd airborne, United States Army where he achieved the rank of Corporal and earned his parachutist badge and his glider badge.

He had retired as a butcher from Castle Brand Meats and from B.J. Alan fireworks Company.

Samuel was a devoted fan of Pittsburgh sports following the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He also enjoyed raising livestock on his farm and a good fireworks display.

He leaves behind his sons Sam Varano Sr., Joe Varano and Bob Varano; Grandsons, Sam Varano Jr. Six Great grandchildren a brother Anthony Varano and his God daughter Debbie Rouch and many nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy whom he married on September 24, 1955 and great grandson Gage

Ann Brown Sandrock, Salem, Ohio

SALEM, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Ann Brown Sandrock 84, of Salem, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Salem Ohio on July 6, 1935, Daughter of the late Maurice and Fanny (Brown) Sandrock.

Ann spent an enjoyable Salem childhood attending Reilly grade school and graduating from Salem High School in 1953.

Ann then attended and graduated from Stephens College in 1955 and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree from the college of education at Ohio State University in 1957.

Ann showed her adventurousness by packing up and heading to California where she taught grade school for 31 years(1958 – 1989) in the South San Francisco School District. Ann absolutely loved teaching. She had interest and compassion for all her students but especially for those who found school a challenge. Coaching and supporting those children was her strength. Ann loved San Francisco and its diversity of people and opportunities. Ann returned to Salem in 1989.

Ann loved and stayed engaged with her extended family including her brother Richard, his wife Ellen, their three children as well as Ann’s nine great-nieces and nephews. (Tate and his wife Claire and their children Owen and Lucia from Maine,   Ryan and his wife Awet and their children Solomon, Gideon and Seble from California and Megan and her children Mwezi, Dustin, Annabelle and Eleanor from Wisconsin. They were all very important to her and she tracked their interests and activities. Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in and supported many Salem charitable organizations.

The family very much appreciates the love and care she received from many including Grace Woods Senior Living, Salem Regional Medical Center (Doctors and nurses), Community Hospice and our loving supportive friends Mary and Mary  – we are forever grateful.

There will be no public calling hours or funeral services held.  It was Ann’s choice to have a private family gathering and burial in Grandview Cemetery in Salem.

HUBBARD, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Swierz officiating for Mary Angela Vernell, 97, who died Wednesday morning, February 12, 2020, at her home.

She was born June 11, 1922, in Pratola Peligna, Italy, a daughter of Giuseppe and Maria Cautela Zanni and moved to Hubbard in 1947, from Italy.

Mrs. Vernell, a homemaker, was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Thumbelina Woman’s Group and the Hubbard Senior Citizens.

Mary enjoyed playing Bingo, sewing, gardening, knitting, cooking and made the best pizza and pizzelles.

Her husband, Louis A. Vernello, whom she married April 21, 1951, died April 21, 1998.

She leaves a son, Anthony Vernell and his wife, Vera of Delaware, Ohio; a daughter, Diane Murray of Hubbard; two grandchildren, Justin Murray and Cassandra Pennachio and her husband, Dante and one great-grandson, Lorenzo Pennachio.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; a sister, Rosina Troia and a granddaughter, Lianne Vernell.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, February 16, 2020, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Closing prayers will be held on Monday, February 17, at 9:15 a.m., at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

She was born July 27, 1952, in Paris, Texas, a son of Richard G. and Thelma Jo Brown Anderson and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Vesey, a homemaker, enjoyed watching movies and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

She leaves a son, Donald “Jay” Anderson and his fiancé, Suzanne Tatomirovich of Masury; a daughter, Jeannette Damstoft and her husband, Leif of Warren; two sisters, Dee Anderson of Girard and Cheryl Parkes of Colorado.

Roxanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Vesey; a son, Richard “Rick” Anderson; two brothers, George and Stoney and a sister, Sallie Morris.

There are no calling hours or funeral services.

AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – James Edward Manning, 70, of Austintown Township passed away at his home on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

James was born November 27,1949 in Youngstown the son of Donald and Dolores (Lentz) Manning.

He was a graduate of Chaney High School, class of 1968 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Jim was catholic by faith and played Men’s Softball with the Steel Valley League for several teams.

He retired from Sharon Packing in 2004 as a driver.

Jim was also an avid Steelers fan, loved “football Sunday’s” with his family and a Boston Red Sox fan, he was also a big fan of the Doors and Jim Morrison but most of all Jim loved being a “PaPa” to his granddaughter, Aveleen.

Jim leaves his wife the former, Carol Cupp, whom he married April 19,1975; two children, Kelley Manning and Rick Manning both of Austintown; his beloved granddaughter, Aveleen; one sister, Deborah Bish of Cortland; two nieces, Melanie (Todd) Humphrey and Julie (Shane) DeSmith and one nephew, Donnie Bish, as well as, several nieces and nephews on his wife’s side.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a niece, Christina Bish.

Friends may call Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again Friday, February 21, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown, Chapel where services will be held at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to help with funeral expenses.
