Tribute: Richard “Rick” A. Markel

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Rick, 45, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 in Aultman Hospital in Canton.

Rick was born July 11, 1971 in Youngstown, the son of Dick and Sandy (Murphy) Markel.

He was a graduate of Jackson Milton High School class of 1989. Rick was a roofer with Boak and Son’s Roofing.

He was a member of the Saxon Club and had been a member of several travel soccer teams over the years. Rick excelled at soccer at an early age and had played for Ursuline High School. He was also a member of the Jr. Olympics Soccer Team and coached soccer for some time.

Rick was the recipient of the 2016 Acts of Courage Award by the American Red Cross for his heroic act of saving a life in an auto accident in 2015. He was also recognized for his acts by both the Canfield Fire Department and the Governor of the State of Ohio.

Besides his parents of North Jackson, Rick leaves a daughter Haley Markel of North Jackson, two sisters Stacie (Dr. Thomas) Markel-Clark of Prosper, Texas, Amy (Jason) Galdun of Valley City, Ohio and three nieces, Mya, Audrey and Ava.

A memorial service celebrating the Life of Richard “Rick” A. Markel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23 at the Lane Family Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.

Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes Austintown Chapel where services will be held at 11:00 a.m.

POLAND, Ohio – Susan L. Fournier, 90, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Hospice House in Poland with her family at her side.

She was born June 4, 1926 in Youngstown to Howard and Theresa Morgan (Weller).

She was a Home Health Aide. She enjoyed cooking, going to the beach, horse racing and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sons; Lawrence Fournier of Poland, Ronald Fournier of Poland, James Mallery, of AL. Her grandchildren; Samantha and Shelby Fournier of Poland and their mother Candace Fournier (Papp) of Poland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother; Howard Morgan.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Matthew W. Conley Funeral Home. Friends may call 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

A private interment will be at the Lake Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Matthew W. Conley Funeral Home, Youngstown, Ohio.

Tribute: Donald P. “Ducky” Clement

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Donald P. “Ducky” Clement, 89, of Howland Township passed away with his family at his side 11:58 p.m., Friday August 19, 2016 at his residence of natural causes.

Don was born July 5, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio the son of the late Joseph E. and Euphrasia M. (Trudeau) Clement.

He proudly served in the US Marine Corps during WW II and the occupation of Japan attaining the rank of PFC.

Don was the owner operator of Don Clement & Son Carpet Service from 1950 until his retirement in 1989 and for 25 years was a carpet installer for Carlisle’s Department Store.

He was a former assistant Scout Master for Troop 98 in Howland and was a member of BPO Elks #295. Before coming to Trumbull County, he was a Golden Gloves boxer in Toledo. He enjoyed playing golf, upholstering furniture and was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He was a long time member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, SS. Cyril and Methodius Worship site.

Don was preceded in death July 24, 2006 by his wife of 55 years Betty (Mook) Clement whom he married October 28, 1950. He also was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Joseph, Jerry, James and Richard.

He will be sadly missed by 2 sons, David L. (Lou) Clement of Anniston, Alabama, Gary P. (Teresa) Clement of Warren, 4 grandchildren Holly L.(Dan) Lazor of Huntsville, Alabama; Courtney Clement of Cincinnati; Mackenzie Clement of Toledo; Cory Clement of Warren and a great grandson Kirby Lazor.

He also leaves a sister JoAnne Rahman(John Hyde) of Highlands, New Jersey; brother-in-law Jerry (Linda) Mook of Merritt Island, Florida and his faithful companion his black lab Zeke.

Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Wednesday Augusts 24, 2016 at Lane Funeral Homes Roberts-Clark Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish SS. Cyril and Methodius Worship site.

Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery.

Tribute: Sandra A. Clay

CANFIELD, Ohio – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Canfield for Sandra A. Clay, 76 of Canfield who died early Monday morning at Assumption Village, North Lima.

Sandra was born April 27, 1940 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Jesse R. and Rita A. Gaber Whittaker and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated in 1958 from Ursuline High School and received her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Kent State University.

Sandy had taught Math at the former Boardman Glenwood Middle School for 8 years. She then had owned her own frame shop for over 20 years, retiring in 2010.

She was known for her sense of humor and had loved to travel. She especially loved her trips to Canada and Alaska.

Sandy was a charter member of St, Michael Catholic Church,and also a charter member of the Youngstown Embroiderer’s Guild.

She leaves her husband of 49 years, Curtis B. Clay and her son and daughter-in-law, Commander Matthew C. Clay USN, Retired and his wife, Kerry Clay of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister, Judith A. (John L.) Masucci of Poland and three grandchildren, Ryan, Abby and Emily. Sandy also leaves one nephew and two nieces.

Besides her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. Whittaker.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Humility of Mary Health Partners, Assumption Village, Hospice House and the Cardiovascular Department of Cleveland Clinic for their wonderful care given to Sandy. They would also like to thank Sandy’s best friend Sally (David) White of Scottsdale, Arizona and good friends George and Anne Tully of Canada for their love and support given to Sandy and the family over the years.

Tribute: Irene Wanda Torno

AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A memorial mass celebrating the life of Irene Wanda Torno will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown.

Irene passed away early Monday morning, August 22 at Humility House at the age of 94.

She was born December 15, 1921 in Cleveland the daughter of John and Antoinette (Schossler) Huszczo and moved to this area in 1984.

Irene worked in the housekeeping department of the Garfield Heights School system for 14 years until her retirement in 1983.

She was a member of the church and a former member of the Saxon Club.

Irene loved to polka dance and loving took care of her husband for 17 years after he suffered a stroke.

Her husband Otto F. Torno, whom she married August 31, 1946 passed away in November of 1996.

Irene leaves two sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Torno and Donald (Susan) Torno both of Austintown, five grandchildren, Danial (Monica) Torno of Columbus, Indiana, Michael (Rhonda) Torno of Kansas City, Missouri, Melissa (Grant) Becker and Katie Torno both of Austintown, and Danielle (Adam) Jackson of Boardman, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Besides her parents and her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her brother Donald Huszczo.

Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2 at the church where the mass will begin at 11:00 a.m.

BOARDMAN, Ohio – A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, August 22 at at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman for Theresa J. Cicatiello, 80, who passed away Thursday afternoon, August 18 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

She was born February 21, 1936, in Youngstown a daughter of Alexander and Josephine (Martino) Cicatiello.

Theresa was a 1954 graduate of Chaney High School and had worked at Youngstown Hospital Association and then Forum Health for 25 years in the housekeeping department.
She was a member of the church and a member of a card club for over 50 years. She was also a huge fan of the Cleveland Cavs, Browns and the Indians. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and shopping on QVC.

Theresa’s greatest love was for her family and for animals.

Theresa leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Jody Rauschenbach and Terry Evans, both of Boardman; her sister, Judy Hanek of Austintown; nieces and nephews James (Linda) Hanek, Debbie (Jonathan) Bibo, Ken Hanek and Denise Hanek; many great-nieces and great-nephews, Bridget Lackey of Boardman who was like a 3rd daughter to her; and her dear friend, Millie Wilfong of Boardman.

In lieu of flowers, material tributes may take the form of donations to the donor’s choice in memory of Theresa.

Theresa’s family would like to give a special thanks to Assumption Village Rehabilitation Unit, St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center ER and ICU Unit for all their great care.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Joann M. (Adelman) Oblinger, age 86, of Austintown passed away on Friday August 19, 2016.

Born June 30, 1930 in Randolph, Ohio, she was the daughter of Clem and Leona (Guthier) Adelman.

She lived most of her life in the Randolph area and moved to Austintown with her husband Robert in 2008.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Austintown and formerly of the St. Joseph’s Church in Randolph.

She enjoyed reading. She was a homemaker and loved to invest her life into her home and family.

Survivors include her children: Patricia (Thomas) De Luca, Sr. and Donald (Monica) Oblinger; four grandchildren: Thomas (Gina) De Luca, Jr., Kelly (Neil) Huda, John Oblinger, and Anna (Mark) Steinburg; great grandchildren: Thomas Guy De Luca, Skyler Huda, Noah Huda, and Ivan Steinburg; brother Paul (Janice) Adelman, Margie (Orville) Murdock, and Delores (Richard) Spellman; numerous nephews and nieces.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Oblinger in 2010, and a brother Sonny Adelman.

Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Home, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, Ohio on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at St Joseph Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd, Randolph, Ohio.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Randolph.

Tribute: James Carwell, Sr.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Victory Christian Center , Coitsville campus for Mr. James Carwell Sr., 78, who passed away Friday, August 19, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Mr. Carwell, affectionately known as “Jim,” was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Clio, Alabama, a son of Richard Carwell and Clara M. Condrey.

Mr. Carwell was a 1956 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and attended Youngstown State University.

In 1955, his senior year, he was chosen as the outstanding player in the Steel Valley Conference. In 1996, he was inducted into Campbell Memorial High School Athletics Hall of Fame for football.

He worked simultaneously with the Campbell Police Department, attaining the rank of sergeant, and the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. After 30 years with the police department, he retired in 1993, and then served at the Campbell Court as bailiff for Judge Almasy for eight years. He also worked as security for the Four Seasons Flea Market for over 15 years.

James was a former member and deacon at the Gospel Temple Baptist Church for over 70 years; and was most recently a member of the Victory Christian Center and its men’s Bible study class, under Pastor Jerome Minor.

He leaves to forever cherish his memories, his wife, the former Gladys McKinney, whom he married May 24, 1969; five children, Diana Crenshaw of Boca Raton, Florida, Kathy (Gerald) Perkins and Karen Perkins, both of Youngstown, James (Sina) Carwell II of Junction City, Kansas and Damon Carwell of Cleveland; a special aunt, Bessie Herron of Youngstown; a special cousin, whom he helped to rear, Mary Alice Randall of Canton; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother Clara Hart; and two children, Richard and Baby Carwell. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Tribute: James F. Nicolaus

WARREN, Ohio – James F. Nicolaus, 82, of Warren, passed away with his family by his side, Friday morning, August 19, 2016, at his residence.

He was born August 20, 1933 in Warren, a son of Reinholt and Katherine (Bosh) Nicolaus.

He attended Bazetta schools and was employed as a crane operator for the former Grinnell foundry in Warren for 17 years. He then worked as a mold operator for Packard Electric Corp. for 22 years before retiring in 1995.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1953-55.

James married the former Donna Jean Nicholas on September 5, 1953. They’ve shared almost 63 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warren. He enjoyed gardening, going to horse races, playing the lottery, and he was very handy, always ready to help anybody with a project.

Besides his wife, James is survived by three children; Deborah (Thomas) Szykulski, James (Debbie) Nicolaus, Jr., and Barbara Nicolaus, all of Warren. He also leaves behind a sister, Beatrice (William) Pahon, of Cortland; three grandchildren; Daniel DeGuire, of Tampa, Florida; Justin (Meredith) DeGuire, of Strongsville; and Kate Szykulski, of Columbus; and three great grandchildren; Aidan, Anne, and Nicolaus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; William and Edward Nicolaus.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren, with the Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.

Friends may call from noon to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

James will be laid to rest with full military honors at Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions be made to SouthernCare Hospice, in James’s memory.

Tribute: Ronald R. Dobos

HUBBARD, Ohio – A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday August 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Swierz officiating and Deacon John Bartos assisting for Ronald R. Dobos who died Saturday afternoon August 20, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ron was born June 29, 1946, the son of Joseph and Goldie (Tranick) Dobos, Jr.

He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1964 and remained in the area.

He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.

Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from March 1966 until January 1970.

He retired from Delphi Packard Electric in 2001 after working for 38 years. He was a member of Spring Hills Golf Club.

Ron enjoyed bowling, gardening, canning hot peppers and listening to country music as loud as the stereo would allow. He was an avid sports fan and could be seen around town most days sporting Cleveland Browns or Cleveland Indians attire. His favorite activity was spending time with his family and friends, sitting on his front porch cracking jokes, telling stories and singing silly songs while enjoying an ice cold beer, which he referred to as “the nectar of the Gods”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Jane; a brother, John and his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Eleanor Shaffer all of Hubbard.

His memory and passion for life will live on through the people with whom he made his home; his wife, the former Carol Shaffer, whom he married July 26, 1979; his daughter, Amanda; granddaughter, Paige Seech and grandson, Zachary (Emily Perry) Seech. Ron also leaves a daughter, Tami (Brian) Pishkur; a son, Thomas (Shari) Dobos and five more grandchildren, Jordyn, TJ, Karter and Cannon of Hubbard and Michael of Austintown. In addition, he leaves a brother, Joseph III of Hubbard; a sister, Clara (Jim) Cozy of Ashtabula; an honorary granddaughter, McKenzie Slagle of Hubbard; close family friend, Erin Mshar; his “favorite furry friend” toy poodle, Julius as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday August 24, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post No. 540 Trumbull County Honor Guard.

Ron’s family would like to give a special thank you to his hospice nurse, Nick Schuller and a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Charles Sammarone. They would also like to thank the rest of the staff at MVI Hospice Care, the aides from Caring Hearts of the Valley, Sonya and Denise and the Belmont VA Clinic for the amazing care they provided for Ron.

WARREN, Ohio – Allen B. Miller, 72, of Warren, Ohio died August 20, 2016 at 5:00 a.m. at Vista Center at the Ridge, Mineral Ridge, Ohio.

He was born June 19, 1944 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, a son of the late Howard E. and Virdilla Jane (Fortney) Griffiths.

He married Bonnie B. Cox Miller on July 6, 1974 and spent 36 years together until her passing in 2011.

Allen worked as a Mill Worker at Alcoa-Excel Extrusions for 14 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, son, David A. Miller of Modesto, California; daughter, Cathy J. Miller Triplett of Newton Falls, Ohio; son, Kenneth David Cox of Warren, Ohio; daughter, Melissa L. Cox Watson of Warren, Ohio; brother, Donald K. Miller of Lordstown, Ohio, and sisters, Patty McNear of Oklahoma and Janet Ann Hetzler of Leavittsburg, Ohio, 13 grandchildren, and also 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 36 years, Bonnie B. Miller, and an infant sister.

Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Jim Dittmar will officiate, with military honors to follow.

SOUTHINGTON, Ohio – James R. St. Clair, 80, of Southington, Ohio died on August 20, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 23, 1935 in Akron, Ohio, a step-son of the late Roy Dale St. Clair and the late Mildred (Barnett) St. Clair.

He married Donna Hughes on October 24, 1955.

He was a 1955 graduate of Waynesburg High School.

James retired in 1990 after 36 years as a material handler for Ford Motor Company.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time in the outdoors and with his dog Blue. James loved watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and Browns.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 60 years, Donna K (Hughes) St. Clair of Southington, Ohio, daughter, Kim (Carman) Greene of Southington, Ohio, daughter, Robin (Jimi) Williams of Warren, Ohio, son, James Kevin (Avis) St. Clair of Southington, Ohio, grandchildren, Heather Moody, Debbi Greene, Courtney Greene, Nicole Kelley and Samantha Terbovich, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild,.

He was preceded in death by his father James Hoare, stepfather Roy Dale St. Clair, mother, Mildred (Barnett) St. Clair.

Services will be held at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., where Pastor Kenneth Kern will officiate.

Tribute: Robert H. Doan

CHAMPION, Ohio – Robert H. Doan, 83, of Champion, Ohio formerly of Southington, Ohio passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Windsor House in Champion.

He was born March 10, 1933, in Union City, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Edward Doan and Lucy (McCray) Doan Gorman.

He was a member of the Southington Christian Church. Robert was an electrician and had served as the business agent for IBEW Local #573. Bob also served as a board member for the Southington Schools. Bob proudly served in the Naval Reserve for eleven years.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and most of all spending time with his family.

Robert’s memory will be carried on by his wife of 62 years, Beverly Joy Collier Doan, whom he married April 4, 1954; three daughters, Debra Feldhouse of Smithfield, North Carolina, Patricia (Bill) Drury of Southington, Ohio and Cheryl (Tom) Durig of Selma, North Carolina; two sons, Robert E. (Gina) Doan of Southington, Ohio and Kenneth (Terry) Doan of Vacaville, California; along with 16 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark Doan; a grandson, Christopher Manos; and three brothers, Frank, John and James Doan.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Southington Christian Church, 3285 State Route 534 Southington, Ohio.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon on Thursday at the church.

Interment will be in the Southington Graham cemetery.

SOLON, Ohio – Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the World Fellowship Interdenominational Church for Mrs. LaRita Dorean Dunham, 53, of Solon, Ohio, who entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 21, 2016.

Mrs. Dunham, lovingly known as “Rita”, was born July 22, 1963 in Okinawa, Japan, a daughter of Theodore and Dorothy M. Goodwine Gayles.

She was a 1981 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and attended both Choffin Career Center and Youngstown State University.

LaRita received her LPN license and worked at various nursing homes.

She was a member and organist of World Fellowship Interdenominational Church and was a former member and organist of Mt. Olive Fire Baptized Holiness Church. She loved music, especially the organ and loved to workout at the gym.

She leaves to mourn her passing, but rejoice in her peace, her mother of Youngstown; her husband, Danny L., whom she married July 6, 1996 and her daughter, Danielle Dunham both of Solon; her sister, Kimberly Gayles-Curtis; a niece, Jacquelyn and nephew, Michael Curtis, Jr. all of California; and a host of family and friends.

Her father and a daughter, Gabrielle Dunham, preceded her in death.

Friends may call Saturday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Andrews AME Church for Mrs. Johnnie Mae Jackson, 84 of Youngstown, who departed this life Sunday, August 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by her beloved family.

Mrs. Jackson, affectionately known as “NaNa”, was born August 27, 1931 in Ashville, North Carolina, a daughter of Ernest and Mable Hudson Toland.

She was a member of St. Andrewes A.M. E. Church, its Mothers Ministry and Usher Ministry.

She loved taking care of children and helping others.

Johnnie Mae was an avid reader of the Bible an enjoyed gospel music.

A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed cooking for her family and whoever would come by her home.

She leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Earnestine Hall of Atlanta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, including Tracey L. Stone (James Hayes) her caregiver, with whom she made her home; 36 great grandchildren, including LaToya Jackson and Britney (Bernard) Corinaldi who helped to care for her; 45 great great grandchildren; 3 great great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ike” Rivers; three daughters, Barbara Jackson, Joyce Jackson Hayes and Shirley Rivers; two sons, Mark and Theodore Rivers, Jr; a sister, Mozella Vincent; and three grandchildren, Christine Howie, Corey D. “Babe” Stone, and Theodore “Ted” Rivers III.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Raymond Price Dickey, 69, who died peacefully Monday morning, August 22 at his home, will be held Thursday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, with Pastor Fred Schrock as celebrant.

Mr. Dickey, affectionately known as “Ray,” was born on July 13, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of Edwin and Madeline (Romanelli) Dickey, and remained a lifelong area resident.

Ray was a 1965 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. Following high school graduation, Ray attended Youngstown State University before being drafted into the U.S. Army. His faithful and courageous service to his country began on January 8, 1968. Ray served during the Vietnam War with the second of the first Calvary and the first 69 Armor Scouts, earning the rank of SP4, and was awarded several decorations and medals for his service including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge. Ray was honorably discharged on February 25, 1969, but still remained very active in various veteran organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0301, V.F.W. post No. 237, and was a life member of the Disabled Veterans.

He worked as a supervisor at GM in Lordstown for 18 years, before buying Dickey’s Bar and Grill in 1983. He proudly owned and operated his small town bar ever since, making so many great friends along the way.

Ray leaves to cherish all their wonderful memories, his mother, Madeline M. Dickey of North Lima; his loving wife, Cindy Zimmerman-Dickey, whom he married on May 26, 2016; brother Edwin (Mickey) Dickey of Phoenix; and his girls from Dickey’s Bar and Grill, whom he cared so much about, Judi, Jaime, Becky, and Jodi.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Dickey.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday morning from 9:00 – 9:50 a.m. at the funeral home.

Ray will be laid to rest with full military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman following the service.

WARREN, Ohio – Marlene T. Mrofchak, 81, of Warren, entered into eternal life peacefully, Monday, August 22, 2016 at 7:45 a.m. at the Hospice House in Poland with her husband and son, Marty at her side.

Marlene was born on April 19, 1935 at her home in Glassport, Pennsylvania, the first born of five children of first generation Slovak heritage immigrants, George J. and Mary C. Dubecky Tomko Sr. and moved to Warren as a small child.

A 1953 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Marlene attended Youngstown Comptometer School. Before and shortly after marrying, Marlene was a bank teller for 3 years at Union Savings and Trust Company and then was a homemaker.

Marlene was a charter and former member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren, where she worked in the rectory and was the church secretary for many years. She was a member the C&M Guild and Altar & Rosary Society of the church. She was active with the parish school of religion and sang in the choir. She was a pirohy worker at the church and was a member of the St. Cyril 50+ Club. Marlene was also a member of the Jednota Branch 422 and was currently a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (Ohio Theta Masters).

For the past 15 years, Marlene and her husband John, were active members of St. John Paul II Parish on North Street in Warren. Marlene was a member of the Silver Sneakers, and the SCOPE in Niles. She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, listening to Jimmy Buffet and the Catholic Station on Sirius Radio, family vacations to the ocean, attending musical and theatrical productions; was a huge supporter of her grandchildren’s events and was a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan. Most of all, Marlene enjoyed the love and time she spent with her family.

Marlene is survived by her husband of 57 years John J. Mrofchak Sr. whom she married on May 9, 1959 and together they shared the love of three children Michelle (Marty) Cristo of Cincinnati, Martin “Marty” (Kathy) Mrofchak of Warren, and John J. (Keli) Mrofchak Jr. of Columbus; four grandchildren Stephanie (Jason) Kokrak, Adam (Danielle) Mrofchak, Molly Mrofchak and Anna Cristo; and three great grandchildren Allie and Emma Mrofchak and soon to be Baby Kokrak, who is to be born in December. She is also survived by her siblings Thomas (Sandy) Tomko of San Antonio, Texas; Eleanore Maggiano of Charlotte and George (Linda) Tomko Jr. of Howland Township.

Besides her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by a grandson Nathan Mrofchak and her sister Rita T. Kurdila.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. at St. John Paul II Parish, 420 North Street NW, Warren, Ohio 44483.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating at 11:00 a.m. in the church with burial to follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Marlene’s name be made to St. John Paul II Parish, 1401 Moncrest Dr. NW, Warren, Ohio 44485 or to Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Lauren Nicole Bowman, 13, who passed away Monday, August 22, at her home.

Lauren was born November 20, 2002, in Youngstown, a daughter of Robert C. and Marijane (Layko) Bowman.

Lauren was an 8th grade student at St. Christine School.

The greatest passion she had was for softball. She also enjoyed reading and drawing.

Lauren loved animals, especially her dogs. She always had fun playing with her sisters and loved her time with her family.

Lauren leaves her parents; her two sisters, Kaylin and Marissa Bowman; maternal grandparents, Deacon Ronald and Nancy (Dota) Layko of Austintown; paternal grandparents, Bob and Gretchen Bowman and Kathy Bowman, all of Austintown; her dogs, Emily, Katie, Holly, and Charles; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lauren was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal great-grandparents and her dog, Muncie, who was waiting for her on the rainbow bridge.

Family and friends may call Thursday, August 25 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at St. Christine Church.

There will be Cursillo Bible Vigil at the conclusion of calling hours.

GIRARD, Ohio – Andrea “Andy” Carmelo Vigorito, 79, of Girard, passed away at his residence on Friday, August 19, 2016.

Andy was born on July 16, 1937 in Corleto Monforte, Italia, a son to Gabriele and Eleonora Greco Vigorito.

In 1967 Andy traveled to the United States and found employment with family in Girard. Prior to retiring Andy worked for U.S. Steel for 17 years and was a Distributor with Forever Living. It brought him great joy to share his love of Forever Living products.

Andy was a member of St. Rose Church and the Sons of Italy #2539.

His interests also included dancing, flea marketing and traveling to Italy to visit his family.

He is survived by his siblings, Carmelina (Armando) Vigorito Giuliano of Napoli, Italia, Ada Vigorito Stabile of Milano, Italia, Dalia Gargiulo of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Antonio (Maria) Vigorito of McDonald, Assunta (Carmine) Vigorito Guadagno of Ottati, Italia, his dear friend, Mary Maytas, fifteen nieces and nephews and thirteen great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Girard, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Andy will be laid to rest at Greenhaven Cemetery.

BERLIN CENTER, Ohio – There will be a memorial service 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 29 at Lane Family Funeral Home, 65 N. Broad St., Canfield Chapel for Ruth N. Canankamp, 83 of Berlin Center, who passed away peacefully Monday evening, with her loving husband at her side.

Ruth was born on the family farm in Berlin Center, a daughter of the late Edward L. and Ethel Pearce Craig and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated from Berlin Center High School in 1951 and had been a secretary for Western Reserve Middle School for 38 years, retiring in 1996.

Ruth was a member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church where she was the organist for many years, taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Ruth was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club of America where she had served as secretary and president.

Along with her husband, she had a great passion and enjoyed the travels experienced with the Ford V8 Club. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing everything from clothing to bedspreads and curtains. Ruth also enjoyed playing cards, especially 500 and had belonged to several card clubs. Her family was very important to Ruth and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Besides her husband, Ken, whom she married October 24, 1952, she leaves two daughters, Colleen Truitt and Lisa (Bill) Porterfield both of Berlin Center; four grandchildren, Wesley, Erica, Kelly and John and two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Lily. Ruth also leaves two brothers, Richard Craig of Ellsworth, Joe Craig of Berlin Center and a sister, Donna Forney of Salem.

Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Craig.

Friends may call on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
