Tribute: Jeff Smith

DIAMOND, Ohio – A celebration of the life of Jeff Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the Lakeview Assembly of God Church in Lake Milton where friends may gather one-hour prior.

Jeff passed away peacefully Monday, August 22, 2016, at his residence.

He was born February 3, 1942 in Youngstown the son of Earl “Sandy” and Darla (Davis) Smith. He was raised by Sandy and June Smith.

Jeff retired from 30 years of over the road trucking in 1996 last working for Yellow Freight Trucking.

He was a member of Charity Lodge F&AM in Diamond. His love was music and theater, performing with the Salem Theater, Kent State Choir, Tapestries, Alliance Community Choir (Mt. Union Choir) Deerfield Chorus and the Salem Music Club.

In 1996 Jeff attended the Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp in Florida where he batted against and got a hit off Bob Feller.

Jeff will be sadly missed by his wife Susan (Stone) Smith whom he married in 1982, daughter Christine (Dan) Large, grandchildren, Josh (Chrissy) Smith, Adam Smith, Dusty, Ben and Kristi Large and a great grandson Lincoln Smith. He will also be missed by his siblings, Edith Myers, Dawn Speece Joseph, Emily Romero, Joyce Frady, Russell, Ted and Richard Smith and sister in law Cynthia (Richard) Forbes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jeff.

The Smith family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to Salem Music Study Club c/o 652 Deming St Salem Ohio 44460. The donations will be used as scholarships for music students.

Tribute: Joseph George Field

STRUTHERS, Ohio – Joseph George Field, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, August 22.

Joe was born August 15, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of John and Katie (Leshak) Field.

He graduated from South High School in in 1947 and courageously served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He then went on to a career as a sheet metal worker for Union Local #33 before retiring in 1988 after 32 years of service.

His wife, the former Elizabeth Stanovcak whom he married September 6, 1952 passed away May 14, 2011.

Joe loved to golf, bowl, fish, and dance, especially polka dancing. He belonged to many golf leagues such as TLNR, Visas, and St. Michael. He was a member of St. Michael Church and a past member of its Civic Men’s Club. He also enjoyed doing the jumbles and suduko puzzles.

Joe will always be remembered lovingly by his four children, Joann James of Pleasant Shade, Tennessee, Nancy (Joe) O’Neill of New Middletown, Joseph Jr. of Struthers, and John (Ruth) Field of Struthers; seven grandchildren, Leslie (Scott) Pope, Lisa (John) Flemmons, April (Jonathan) Bush of Tennessee, Shaun and Megan O’Neill of New Middletown, Ashley Field of Michigan, and Jimmy Field of Struthers; five great-grandchildren, Aiden and Addison Pope, Avery Flemmons and Isaac and Eli Bush of Tennessee; two great-great-grandchildren expected in August and December; and sister, Josephine (Bebe) Nicora of Spring Hills, Florida.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Mike Fields; four sisters, Winnie Barbato, Sophie Fields, Mary Montmore, and Millie Dedo; and son-in-law, William Randall James.

Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman.

HUBBARD, Ohio – There will be services at 7:00 p.m. on Friday August 26, 2016 at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Donna L. Focht age 62, of Hubbard who passed away Tuesday August 23, 2016 at Hospice of The Valley Hospice House after a 7 year battle with cancer.

During her battle with cancer she showed a love of life and never felt sorry for herself, she was truly an inspiration to her family.

Donna was born March 9, 1954 in Sharon, PA. a daughter of Robert & Helen Louise McNamara.

She attended grade school at Immaculate Heart of Mary and was a 1972 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.

She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, music, watching Law and Order and Jeopardy.

Donna will be sadly missed by her family; her husband Clayton J. Focht whom she married July 2, 1988; her mother Helen L. McNamara of Youngstown, her children Aaron D. Fischer of Niles, Brooke A. Fischer of Hubbard, her grandchildren Darcy Young, Clayton Spuck, and Reagan Fischer.

She also leaves her brother Robert (Barbara) McNamara of Baltimore, Maryland and her nephew Justin McNamara and her niece Jennifer McNamara and a cousin Rogan McNamara of Sharon, PA.

She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother Dottie McNamara.

There will be calling hours on Friday August 26, 2016 two hours prior to the service from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.

KINSMAN, Ohio – Glenn William James Furr, age 23, of Kinsman,OH, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

He was born April 14, 1993, in Warren, Ohio, a son of Kevin E. Hoover and Tamara J. (Furr) Naylor.

A lifelong area resident, Glenn was a 2012 graduate of LaBrae High School and TCTC.

He was employed by Southern Cross Communications as a tower hand.

Glenn formerly attended the Rock of Grace Church in Vernon. He enjoyed art, drawing, and was a tattoo artist; and he loved the outdoors going hunting and fishing.

Glenn is survived by his daughter Isabella Tallman of Alliance, Ohio; his mother and step father, Tamara and William Naylor Jr. of Leavittsburg, Ohio; his brother, Zachary Furr, and sister, Ariell Groubert, both of Leavittsburg; his step brother, William Naylor III of Bristol, Ohio; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Mary Hoover of Kinsman, Ohio; his two uncles, Shawn Hoover and Wesley Furr; and aunt Jeannine Brooks.

He is preceded in death by his father and maternal grandparents, John and Linda Furr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,OH, with Pastor Mark Biel officiating. Cremation will follow services.

Calling hours will be on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Tribute: Robin Marie Norman

NILES, Ohio – Robin Marie Norman, 48, passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic following an extended battle with cancer.

She was born in Oberlin on February 8, 1968 the daughter of Robert and Donna (Kelly) Vance.

She was a 1986 graduate of Stanton High School, Irondale, Ohio and in 1989 she received an Associate Degree in Allied Sciences from Kent State University.

She was a physical therapist assistant for Tudor Physical Therapy of Austintown and also worked for Nova Care for many years. She was a member of the Niles First United Methodist Church.

Robin is survived by a daughter, Nicole M. Norman, a son, Ian R. Norman, former husband, Jeff Norman all of Niles; mother, Donna (Don) Carnahan of Hammondsville; sister, Vonda Stewart of Wellsville, two nephews, Doug (Bridget) Stone, Brad (Tina) Stewart and her best friend, Tammy Scine.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Calling hours will be Friday, August 26, 2016 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles where the funeral will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Paula Marbury officiating. Graveside services and burial will be in Hammondsville Cemetery on Saturday.

Tribute: Joyce K. Nelson

CANFIELD, Ohio – Joyce K. Nelson, age 97, of Canfield passed away August 20 at Hospice of the Valley House with her loving family at her side.

Born May 17, 1919 in Calumet, Michigan; she was the daughter of Jacob and Mabel (Merritt) Kaiser.

Joyce was a graduate of Calumet High School as well as Suomi College (now Finlandia University) in Hancock, Michigan.

She worked as a bookkeeper for People’s Fuel Company and later at Republic Steel in Cleveland.

She married Edward N. Nelson on April 4, 1942; they had 67 wonderful years together until his passing on February 6, 2009.

Joyce was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church, Red Hats and was an original member of Sleepy Hollow Garden Club and other community clubs. She swam at the YMCA twice a week until the age of 96. She enjoyed going to lunch, reading, and traveling. Some of the fondest memories were the family’s vacations to Hawaii to celebrate their 60th and 65th anniversaries. She will be remembered for her strength, gentleness, humor, and love.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Edward J. (Priscilla) Nelson and her daughter Susan (Dennis) Latess; the “apples of her eye” were her two grandsons Edward Nicolas “Nico” and Tyler Jacob Nelson, it was her goal to live long enough see Nico graduate from high school in 2014 and Tyler in 2016; she is also survived by a beloved cousin Terri Torman.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by many beloved friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice House for the wonderful care they gave to Joyce during her last few days, also they would like to extend special thanks to her care-givers Sissy Booth, Theresa Zubal, and Darlene Kamrad; she had a special place in her heart for the caregivers who were with her for two years, Sandy Greco and Samantha Pavlik who brought much laughter and love into her home.

A Memorial Service will take place at the Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St. Canfield on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. where friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Canfield Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, Ohio 44515.

Tribute: Donald Lee Burkland

WARREN, Ohio – There will be a Committal Service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park for Donald Lee Burkland, 72, who died early Sunday morning at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren.

Don was born December 3, 1943 in Youngstown, a son of Donald L. and Emma Mae Grafinger Burkland.

He had been a member of First Covenant Church.

Don had attended Michigan State and Youngstown Universities.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, J. Bruce Burkland.

Tribute: Annamae “Zeke” Amendolara

BOARDMAN, Ohio – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, at Saint Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. Philip Rogers for Annamae “Zeke” Amendolara, 90, who passed away at her home Monday morning surrounded by her family.

Zeke was born May 17, 1926, in Youngstown, a daughter of Catherine Bernard and has been a life-long area resident.

She graduated from East High School with the Class of 1943.

She was a homemaker and worked with her husband, Tony at his Interior Design Business.

She was a long time member of St. Christine’s parish and a more recent member of St. Charles parish.

She was involved with CISV, Boys/Girls Scouts of America and the Arts Council.

Her husband Tony Amendolara whom she married on November 12, 1949 died in February, 1998 after 48 years of marriage.

She will be greatly missed by her three children, Michael (Amy Weil ) Amendolara of Brooklyn, New York; Aimee (Peter) Morrison of Boardman, Suzanne (William Mathie) Amendolara of Edinboro, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, David Morrison, Megan Morrison (her fiance Stephen Preston), Leah Mathie, Tony Mathie and Luke Amendolara; two half-brothers, William and Tony Bernardi, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her mother and husband, Zeke was preceded in death by her son, David Amendolara, and her two sisters, Mary Lou Dextras and Margaret Bernard.

In lieu of flowers Zeke requested any monetary donations be made to Ursuline Students of Stewardship (S.O.S.), 750 Wick Ave. Youngstown, OH 44505.

Her family would like to thank her care-givers and Hospice of the Valley for their gift of love and support which enabled her to stay at home until her passing.

The family will receive family and friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, at Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.

Tribute: Cecil R. Fluharty

NILES, Ohio – Cecil R. Fluharty, age 76, of Niles, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 with his family at his side.

Cecil was born November 2, 1939 in Lumberport, West Virginia to the late Homer and Beulah (Postlethwait) Fluharty.

He attended Warren Consolidated High School in Tiltonsville, Ohio.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Cecconi on March 14, 1959.

Cecil was employed by Republic Steel, later LTV Steel, as an electrician supervisor at the 56” Mill in Warren.

He enjoyed coaching baseball for his sons at Burbank park and later was the #1 fan as gummy worm Grandpa for his granddaughter, Karen’s team in Howland. He was a man of many talents.

Cecil was a member of the Warren Masonic Temple Old Erie Lodge #3. He especially enjoyed working on cars and tinkering in his garage.

Cecil was a heart transplant recipient in 2001 and was deeply grateful to the family of Angelique for the generous gift of 15 more years of life.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty; his sons, David (Christina) Fluharty, and Daniel (Christine) Fluharty; five grandchildren, Kristina (Scott), Karen (Frank), Andrew, Ryan, and Danielle; four great-grandchildren, Rylee, Teagan, Cecilia, and Olivia; and step-grandson Martise. He is also survived by his siblings, Joyce (Jim Pierce) Fluharty and Caney (Cathy) Fluharty; brother-in-law Richard (Rosemary) Cecconi, and special sister-in-law Vivian Fluharty; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard and Wayne.

Friends may call Friday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Dr. in Warren; where the funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Niles Cemetery.

Tribute: Margaret Jane Wike

WARREN, Ohio – Margaret Jane Wike, 83, of Warren, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday evening, August 23, 2016.

Jane was born on August 28, 1932 in Porter Township Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late William G. and Rachel E. (Doak) Geist.

She was a lifelong resident of Warren and attended Howland High School but graduated from Punxsutawney High School.

Jane worked on the production line at Ohio Lamp for several years.

She was a devoted Christian and a proud member of Bolindale Church of the Nazarene.

She leaves behind a daughter, Laurie (Tony) Virgalitte, of Akron, a son Jeff G. (Cindy) Wike, of Creston, five grandchildren; Jason (Heather) Richards, Rachel (Scott) Hobbs, Jesse Richards, Jeffery (Kari) Wike, Jeremy (Tonya) Wike, and 12 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, and best friend of 52 years, John “Jack” Wike. They were married on January 25, 1955 and Jack died on July 16, 2007. Jane is also preceded in death by a sister Mary Shelar and two brothers; Melvin and Dwight Geist.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Roberts Clark Funeral Chapel, 180 Garfield Dr. Warren, OH.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will take place at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Champion.

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, Boardman followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church for John J. Christoff, 85 of Boardman who passed away Wednesday morning, August 24, at Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

John was born December 27, 1930 in Youngstown, the son of Louis and Elizabeth Rako Christoff and was a lifelong area resident.

He graduated from South High School with the Class of 1949.

John was a veteran who served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean war.

He worked as a millwright for General Motors retiring in 1996 and also worked part time as a Realtor for D’amico Realty Company.

He has been a lifelong parishioner of St. Dominic Parish, its Holy Name Society, Booster Club and Knights of Columbus.

John loved to travel, especially with his wife Diana to Rome and his family to Hawaii. He enjoyed golf, fishing, skiing, rafting and all things that included spending time with his family.

His wife Diana R. Wilson whom he married January 13, 1956 died on October 31, 2013 just short of celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters Mary Beth (Gary) Komsa of Poland, Ann Marie Christoff of Canton; five sons, John L. Christoff of Melbourne, Florida, Michael C. (Ginna) Christoff of Poland, Mark A. (Mary Beth) Christoff of Mineral Ridge, William F. (Karen) of Pittsburgh, Kenneth F. (Jennifer) Christoff of New Middletown; 15 grandchildren, Michael J. (Ashley) Christoff, Mollie (Joel) DeSocio, Mathew J. (Danielle) Christoff, Catherine Komsa, Sarah Komsa, Mark Christoff, John Paul Christoff, Eric Christoff, Nicholas Christoff, Bryce Christoff, Alexander Christoff, Christian Christoff, Samantha Gurd, Brendan Gurd and Maria Christoff; four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Sasha Christoff, Carmen and Luke DeSocio.

Besides his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by a granddaughter Faith Rose Christoff; two brothers, Chris and George Christoff and a sister, Helen McDonald.

Tribute: Nancy “Sis” Stewart

BROOKFIELD, Ohio – Nancy Jane “Sis” Stewart, of Brookfield, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, while a patient at UPMC, Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a brief illness. She was 67.

Nancy was born July 6, 1949 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a daughter to John Z. & Nancy I. (Ziegler) Papp.

A 1967 graduate of Brookfield High School, she met her future husband on a double date and ended up falling in love with the other man from that night. A short time later, she married Fred R. Stewart on July 19, 1969, after he came home from the U.S. Army. Born to this union were two children, Jeffrey & Michelle.

She worked as an accounting clerk for GATX, Masury, Ohio and CCL, Wheatland, Pennsylvania. However, she took the most pride in being a homemaker for her family.

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing on the computer, and proof reading sci-fi/fantasy stories for various writers.

Survivors include: her mother, Nancy, Brookfield; her husband Fred of 47 years; her children, Jeffrey A. Stewart & his wife Kerri, East Palestine, Ohio, and Michelle L. “Micki” Stewart, Cleveland, Ohio; her granddaughters, Jocelyn & Courtney; and her brother, John M. “Butch” Papp, Atlanta, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A time of gathering to honor Nancy will be held Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Briceland Funeral Service, located on the historic village green at 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403.

Tribute: Helen Brahos

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for Helen Brahos, 90, who passed away on Tuesday, August 23.

She was born in Paleokastro, Greece, in 1926, the daughter of Reverend Demetrios Siatras and Presvitera Zaharoula Siatras.

She was married to the late Constantine (Kostas) Brahos, whom she married January 31, 1944.

She leaves behind a son, Demetrios (Jim) Brahos of Austintown, and a daughter, Katherine Brahos Kermetz, and a son-in-law Lewis Richard Kremetz.

She was the second oldest of five siblings. Her brothers Constantine (Kostas) Siatras and sister, Sanoukou (Anna) Triantafilou both live in Greece. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Her oldest sister Despina passed away from an epidemic at the tender age of eight. The youngest sister was named after the first sister Despina (Despo) Siatras Bandi, who also passed away 15 years ago.

She worked very hard from a very young age and endured the hardships and tragedies of World War II.

She has belonged to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown since 1951, a past member of the St. Nicholas Philoptochos Society. She worked hard and will be remembered for her kindness to everyone she knew.

Friends will be received on Sunday, August 28 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 4:30 p.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., Youngstown, Ohio, and on Monday, August 29 from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

WARREN, Ohio – Queen Easter Lee, 66, of 1768 Sweetbrier Street, S.W., Warren, OH, departed this life Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at her residence, following, an extended illness.

She was born November 7, 1949 in Columbus, Mississippi, the daughter of Jesse and Minnie Butler Lee Sr., residing in the area since 1973.

Ms. Lee was employed with Community Skilled Nursing Center for 25 years as a Custodian, before retiring December 2015.

She was a faithful member of Third Christian Church, where she attended Sunday School and enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

She leaves to mourn one son, Jonathan “James” Lee of Charlottesville, Virginia; three brothers, Willie (Bertha) Lee, Ollie (Zollie) Lee, and Major (Helen) Lee; three sisters, Ms. Annie Mae Baldwin, Ms. Mary Lee and Ms. Mattie Jones; three grandchildren, Marcus James Lee, Jordan Tyler Lee and Rosaline Magalie Maas and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Josie Mae Lang and two brothers, Jesse Lee Jr. and TY Lee.

Queen’s family wants to especially thank Third Christian Church, Hope Cancer Care, St. Joseph Hospital and MVI Hospice Care for all the help, kindness and love extended to them.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Third Christian Church.

Calling Hours will be held one hour prior to service (10:00-11:00 a.m.).

ASHTABULA, Ohio – Richard Kihn, III, 40, of Ashtabula, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Hillcrest Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was born December 12, 1975, in Warren, OH, the son of Richard Kihn, Jr. and Marsha (Durch) Shelton.

He was a graduate of Champion High School and over the years he has worked as a laborer at Great Lakes Cheese and Kraftmaid.

Richard liked boxing and playing football.

Richard’s memory will be carried on by his loving wife, Michelle (Hull) Kihn of Ashtabula, Ohio, whom he married October 5, 2013; father, Richard Kihn, Jr.; mother, Marsha (Durch) Shelton; son, Braden Kihn; step-son, Aron Hull; step-daughter, Melanie Hull; and sister, Kirsten Kihn.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Shelton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016, at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.

WARREN, Ohio – Mrs. Marzee Oliver Cannon departed this life on August 24, 2016.

She was born January 9, 1932, in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Lula (Cameron) Oliver.

She was a 1950 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.

She worked numerous jobs including, Sajar Plastics of Middlefield, Ohio before retiring from Packard Electric with 28 years.

She was a member of Because of Him Ministry, Pastor Archie and first Lady Shirley McMillion.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed being with her family, crocheting, cooking and socializing with friends. She deeply loved and cared about people.

She will forever be missed by three sons, Robert L. (Theresa) Dunewood, Jr., of Cortland, Ohio, Jeronn L. (Deborah) Dunewood, of Warren, Ohio and David M. Cannon of Dover, Delaware; also three daughters, Juanda Dunewood Madison, of Warren, Ohio, Kandess Dunewood Malau, of Warren, Ohio and Renee Cannon Sims, of Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Cannon; three brothers, Clarence Oliver, Nathaniel Oliver and Sylvester Oliver; and sister, Mary Oliver Honeywood.

She leaves a host of nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, God-daughter, Ms. Lynette Williamson, other relatives and life long friends.

Services will be held 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016, at Because of Him Ministry, 1212 Tod Ave., Warren, where Rev. Archie McMillion will officiate.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.

Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, OH.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Lawrence P. Sebben, 86, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at his residence.

He was born in Warren, Ohio, on March 30, 1930 the son of the late Angelo Sr. and Maria Sebben.

He was a 1947 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and a 1953 graduate from Ohio University with Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

He retired from Choice Point in Youngstown Ohio in 1991 as field inspector after 35 years.

Lawrence was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Warren, He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and traveling.

Lawrence served our country in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1949.

He is survived by his children Edward J. Sebben of McDonald, Larry M. (Lorraine) Sebben and Debra A. Griffing both of Austintown, four grandchildren Phillip Sebben, Kelly (Adam) Brown, Jennifer (Alex) Taylor and Stefanie (Devin) McNeilly, a great grandson Nolan McNeilly, and a sister Ida Fabrizio of Sacramento, California.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Sebben who he married May 22, 1954 and passed away, three brothers Paul Sr., Miles and Angelo Jr. Sebben, and two sisters Emily Guerra and Ann Sandy.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE Warren, Ohio 44483.

A service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.

NEW WATERFORD, Ohio – Carl A. Betke, 80, of SR 46 in New Waterford, passed away August 25, 2016 at the Salem Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Carl was born May 7, 1936 in Beaver Falls, PA, son of the late Alfred and Louanna Barkley Betke.

He was a veteran of the US Army, and worked in the construction field. When not working, he enjoyed tinkering and repairing almost anything, and spent his life putting others before himself. He most enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Davis who he married April 3, 1957. He is also survived by two daughters, Vicky (Tom) Reppy of North Jackson and Carla (John) Amann of Austintown; son, Randy (Heather) Betke of Brooklyn, OH; three brothers, Jim (Judy) Betke, Harry (Joyce) Betke and Roy Betke; four sisters, Jean Gray, Pat (Chuck) Hawkins, Wanietta (Robert) McNeill and Wanda (Jim) Roberts; as well as grandchildren, Courtney (J.R.), Chris, John, Tianna, Brandi, and one great grandson Trey.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home in East Palestine.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.

NILES, Ohio – Sean Joseph Scriven, 53, died unexpectedly Friday morning, August 26, 2016 at his residence from a heart ailment.

Sean was born in Warren, Ohio on March 2, 1963, the son of Paul J. and Betty Jean (Vaccaro) Scriven, Sr. and lived there all of his life.

He was a member of Saint Stephen Church, attended Saint Stephen School and the Niles City Schools.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and listening to music. Family gatherings and taking rides in the country were very special activities.

Sean is survived by three sisters, Diane Hilas and Stanley Henry of Warren; Karen (Ron) Browne of Jeromesville; Kathleen (Robert) Black of Niles; four nephews, Mickey (Sarah) Moyer, Christopher (Amber) Moyer, Craig (Bethany) Comanescu, Jr., Paul (Vicki) Comanescu and several great nephews and nieces.

Sean was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward J. Scriven and Paul J. Scriven, Jr.

Calling Hours will be Monday, August 29, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where the Saint Stephen Bereavement Ministry will have a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Stephen Church with the Rev. James Korda as the celebrant. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – David Frederick Lachowski, 73, of Charlotte and formerly of Warren, entered into eternal life Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:30 p.m. at Novant Medical Center Matthews Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, North Carolina under the comforting care of hospice.

David was born on November 21, 1942 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania the son of the late Stanely and Josephine (Novelli) Lachowski.

He grew up in Warren and after graduating from Warren G. Harding High School in 1960, he enlisted in the United States Navy, with his best friend Louie Gorsick.

David was a disc jockey for a short time at a local radio station and then went on to work for Packard Electric. He retired and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1996.

David was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Warren.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years the former Carolyn F. Buterbaugh whom he married on December 3, 1977; four children Jeffrey (Kelly) Lachowski and David Lachowski of Warren; Vanessa Lachowski of the home and Mia Davis of Charlotte; his siblings Joan (Tom Muszynski) Hinkle of Gainesville, Florida, Teresann (Jack) Clark of McDonald, Rinajo “Rina” (Drew) Verbosky of Howland Twp, and Stanley (Sandy) Lachowski Jr. of Bend, Oregon; and five grandchildren Ashley, Alex, Alexis, and Natali Lachowski and Magdalene Davis.

Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 9:00 – 10:50 a.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44481.

An Order of Christian Burial Service will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Fr. Christopher Henyk, pastor of St. John Paul II Parish in Warren, officiating. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in David’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 9, Warren, Ohio 44484.
